35 was fun. Had to touch the grass one more time this weekend before I start telling people I’m in my late 30’s.
Cheers to an abnormally warm Libra season and good times that never make the gram .
Praying for a year that sees a more liberated populace even as we watch the systems in place dismantle those dreams daily. Remind yourself righteousness is rarely the majoritive’s policy prerogative . by @elmarie__

This journey man.
It’s truly about the people. Keep the sound on for slide 2 to hear Abdel explain happiness in gorgeous context. So many conversations that will live with me forever, so many people that I will hold dear always. The memories you can’t even share but always come back to for personal inspiration.
Long walks through the Medina, days started with Moroccan whiskey and fresh orange juice. Guided tours that become full day excursions with new friends. That new skin feel after an afternoon at the Hammam. Moving intentionally but without an end goal. Stopping consistently to take it all in. The colors, The Flavors, The Culture. The depth of every person we were able to connect with. Grateful for it all.

Excuse me for being a lil wordy but I’ve been in the desert for days with my journal and all the feels. Thank you @frederickthuglass & @leecooks_church

Being the child of a single woman in NYC often meant mom is overworked and often too tired to ask too many questions about your every move by the time you get to high school. With a student metrocard and flip phone this new freedom could have placed us anywhere. Somehow we still ended up at the gay youth center learning how to be peer counselors afterschool, we went to the church on Friday nights that had voguing lessons and dinner prepped by the nuns. When we wanted to be badass we started a rock band and wrote terrible songs about high school heart break and would take the hour long bus ride to Maspeth so Bluestreak could help us get cheap alcohol.

Thinking back it’s funny to think we really thought we were badasses. A bit emo maybe but we really were just good kids gifted with just enough freedom to learn and be ourselves away from home for a bit. I am forever grateful for that freedom and the friendship that helped guide me through the fogginess of young adulthood. We could have been a lot of things but grateful that we’ve always found ways to just been us.

So to watch you blossom and grow as you and Lee move in this world together, to watch you both inspire that same sense of freedom in others makes my heart swell. To watch you walk into love on Juneteenth with a gang behind you holding yall up in love and community is everything we could have asked for. This is freedom. This year I got to revisit and find new beauty in both Hawaii and Medellin. Made forever memories with the siblings in Belize. Wrapped two projects and joined a new union. Picked up crafting again, kept my reading streak going and enjoyed time with the fam any chance we could make it happen. I was awed by the strength of my friends as I watched them tend to their own families and struggles. There’s been growth, loss, closure and many pieces to this chapter that won’t make the gram but grateful to be on this journey. My 4th New Years in Latin America and no more excited for Jan 20th than I was in 2024. Cheers to the New Year. by @elmarie__

Everything about these last 5 days has been a blessing. Grateful to make and share such beautiful memories with my favorite people. Now after 5 days of being a Muva I am happy to return these kids to their owners and start prepping for the next adventure.
