From Elon to Capitol Hill!

Last week, Sarah Conway, PA-S1 and Elon’s NCAPA representative, traveled to Washington, D.C. for the AAPA Leadership and Advocacy Summit.

Sarah took her advocacy to Capitol Hill, meeting with congressional aides to discuss legislation impacting PA practice and graduate education. She also attended sessions on PA advocacy and practice, and connected with PA students and professionals from 43 states across the country.

Elon PA Program Director Dr. Kim Stokes, who serves on the NCAPA Board, also attended the summit.

We’re proud to have Sarah representing Elon PA and advocating for the future of the PA profession and the patients we serve!

No better way to spend a Monday morning than inspiring the next generation of PAs!🩺 Some of the first year students spent their morning with 4th and 5th graders at Alexander Wilson Elementary, where they talked about the path to becoming a PA and the role that PAs play within the healthcare team. Students practiced tying surgical knots by making their own friendship bracelets and put their anatomy knowledge to the test with Pin the Organ on the Patient!🥳 Special thanks to Ryan our Outreach Chair for organizing this event, and to Alexander Wilson Elementary for having us! by @elonpaprogram

From September 15-October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time where we can celebrate the culture, impact, and legacy of Latinx communities. In healthcare, around 9-13% of medical providers are Hispanic, with the PA profession accounting for only 6-7.7% of this population. We want to take a moment to recognize the next generation of Hispanic PAs within our own cohort who are helping to change this reality and shape the future of medicine - one that is rooted in representation, equity, and quality care for all.

We are proud to commemorate the influence and resilience of Latinx communities’ both in medicine and beyond. Let’s continue to advocate for and inspire future generations of Latinx providers to dream boldly and lead with purpose and passion!!!

Here’s to embracing how far we have come, and paving the way for where we are going ❤️🧡💜 by @elonpaprogram

Elon PA students spent their elective rotation bringing care across Southern Belize! Working in a low resource setting pushed our students to practice real medical autonomy, from using ultrasound in clinic to managing wound care and performing procedures like I&Ds at Hillside Health Care International clinic. 🩺💉

Mobile clinics took them to Toledo district’s most rural communities, including Barranco, San Jose, and Aguacate, plus home visits for non ambulatory patients needing acute wound care and daily assessments. A community health fair back in town offered free BP and glucose checks, along with medication counseling.

They teamed up with physical therapy, occupational therapy, and pharmacy students from other schools in clinic, and received hands on experience working alongside the town’s only dentist and optometrist.

Beyond the clinic, our students immersed themselves in local life, volunteering for meals on wheels, building relationships and learning firsthand about Belizean culture with compassion along the way💗🌴 by @elonpaprogram

Big weekend for Elon PA at the AAPA 2026 Conference in New Orleans!

So proud of our first and second year students for representing our program so well. We brought home 3rd place in the iScan competition and advanced to the second round of the AAPA National Medical Challenge Bowl!

Couldn’t be prouder of such a hardworking, supportive, and talented group of future PAs. Excited to keep learning, growing, and making memories together along the way!

May is National Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage month! ✨ As we near the end of spring semester, we want to take a moment to honor and appreciate the vast cultures and contributions of AAPI communities. Currently, only 6-7% of Asian and 0.3% of Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander individuals make up the PA workforce in the United States - highlighting the importance of cultivating representation and inclusion within medicine and in society. We are beyond proud to celebrate and uplift the members of our cohort that are continuing to advance the future of healthcare - one that is culturally sound and committed to delivering efficient care.

Let this month serve as a reminder of the resilience, sacrifices, and opportunities of AAPI communities - whose voices and experiences continue to pave a legacy for our forthcoming generation of providers!

Here’s to creating spaces where every story belongs and every identity is embraced
