What does community care look like? It means, in part, that people are not just fed, but they are nourished, body and spirit.

Recently, LA-32 had the pleasure of visiting our October Garden of the Month, the El Sereno Community Garden, where the community care is abundant, and the serenity of the space allows for a moment of quiet in the bustling city.

Many thanks to everyone who volunteers at the garden!
And for those who do not volunteer, take time and visit on Saturday mornings, when it is open to the public. The garden is waiting for you!

If you know a garden that should be Garden of the Month, it is easy to nominate it - visit bit.ly/4kpdhiK and fill out the form.

Just in time to nourish the revolutionary roots of Pride 🤩🏳️‍🌈🥰

The location has moved to our nearby sister site, @elserenocommunitygarden This place is special to many of us at El Sereno GreenGrocer, & we are grateful to be able to unfurl this program here. The Garden allows for a green, safer, enclosed space that folks who come to receive can rest or play in during the distribution

🌼🎼 This past Sunday An Invitation to Rest brought together the Green Arrow community, staff, alumni, volunteers, friends, and partners for a shared sound bath, guided meditation, and reflection guided by @cucurru.paloma at the @elserenocommunitygarden .

💗Which was followed by an invitation to walk across the street to the @mercadodelpueblocoop community swap meet to enjoy a complimentary and delicious Green Arrow health juice prepared by @wellnessbyisabella_ and spend time with the community we’ve been rooted in for the last three years and has welcomed us.

🦋This gathering was our invitation to reclaim something simple: the right to rest, not as a reward, but as a practice that sustains us and the work we love. Many of us on the Green Arrow team are system-impacted ourselves, and we’ve chosen to spend our lives serving formerly incarcerated communities.

🟢 That work is deeply personal, and unaddressed burnout can create friction and disconnection both within teams and between staff and community. Through this gathering, we wanted to come together in a shared restorative practice through sound and meditation and interrupt the cycle where burnout turns into disconnection. To those who joined us we hope you left with at least one practice or intention to carry back into daily life.💚

🪴A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers, for their support throughout the entire event from securing mats to capturing beautiful moments and keeping everything running smoothly. 💛

And again special, heartfelt thank you to @cucurru.paloma , and @elserenocommunitygarden whose energy and support behind the scenes helped make this whole event possible. We couldn’t have done it without you. 🙏

💚To everyone who couldn’t join us this time we missed you, and we hope to see you at our next gathering. Stay tuned, we’ve got more gor more events coming soon. 🌱

Don't let them convince you that we don't have collective power.
When we get to know our neighbors, our city, and show up for our community we hold the power to create positive change.

The Eastside takes care of each other!

Big shout out to @elserenocommunitygarden and @elserenogreengrocer
