The legacy correspondent banking model remains structurally strained for high‑frequency, high‑value transfers. On the SWIFT network alone, which links more than 11,500 institutions worldwide, only 60% of wholesale payments are credited within one additional hour of entering the network. Remittances fare worse꞉ sending money internationally still costs an average of 6.49% of the amount sent, well above global reduction targets.

At the Fintech Without Borders Forum, this panel will examine how mobile money, digital wallets, and new settlement rails are working to close that gap for senders and recipients everywhere, and where the Financial Stability Board’s roadmap for cross‑border payments headed beyond 2027. The panel will assess what faster, cheaper, and more transparent cross‑border payments actually require to reach scale worldwide.
