Second trimester energy, sunshine, loving my husband and growing our third lil human by @elycewintle

What homeschooling our 5 year old looks like 🌿

I remember being pregnant with Forest and knowing that this is the path I wanted to take.

Like most decisions I make in my life, I always feel intuitively led, and then the unraveling begins.

I love this path for us, and the more I lean into it, the more clear it’s all becoming.

I don’t need to know what things will look like in a few years time, because it’s all unfolding right now, in real time.

At our home group, the children are quite literally leading the way for us parents, and we have each other to lean on for support and guidance.

We often watch them all in the distance and feel so emotional and proud of what we’ve created together.

So grateful for the beautiful mamas (and Dads) at Woven who I love and feel honoured to raise my babies alongside ♥️ @browns.road @surfygee @rochellebramich_ @charlottesquires by @elycewintle

What nourishing my baby looks like now that I’m out of my first trimester!

This is a little insight into what I’ve been enjoying lately, slowly adding in the foods that support the growth of my baby and sustain my own energy demands.

Every pregnancy, dairy seems to be the thing I crave the most. A few slices of tasty cheese randomly throughout the day seems to hit the spot! Our bodies just know what they need! ✨

What’s your go to food in pregnancy? by @elycewintle

Life’s been pretty sweet offline..

Turned 35, and started growing another lil human 🌼

Still can’t believe my two babies will both be big siblings!

Thank you God ✨ by @elycewintle

Who here as a mum has fallen into the snacking trap?

I think this happens to so many of us, especially in the postpartum season when you’re so hungry breastfeeding and trying to keep up with the energy demands.

Life with a newborn (and other children for some), means it’s just easier to grab something quick you can eat with one hand while you’re holding a baby in the other.

In a short season like postpartum, that’s not the end of the world. But over time, this habit isn’t something you want to carry with you long term.

For a few reasons…

When you’re snacking, the quality of what you’re actually eating tends to drop. Instead of having proper meals with a good amount of protein, fat and carbs - they tend to be either fat heavy or carb heavy and very little nutrients.

This leads to constant hunger, blood sugars spikes, nutrient deficiencies, and digestive issues like bloating or constipation.

Constant snacking also affects the migrating motor complex (MMC) which is your gut’s internal cleaning system.

It’s a wave of muscle contractions that sweeps through your intestines, clearing out bacteria and leftover food debris, but it only switches on when you go a few hours without eating.

If you’re snacking every hour or so, you’re interrupting that entire process and overtime, this can cause major digestive issues.

So if you’re a mum trapped in the snacking loop, here’s where I’d start:

🌿 Aim for a minimum of 3 hours between eating, and make your meals satiating enough that you’re not reaching for snacks all the time.

🌿 Your meals should have a good amount of protein, fats, carbs. If you’re constantly craving snacks, your meals probably lack protein and density.

A simple structure to try:

✅Eat a solid breakfast with protein, fats, carbs
❌No food for 3 hours
✅Eat something light/ mini meal (rice cakes with mackerel, goat cheese, rocket, cherry tomatoes)
❌No food for 3 hours
✅Eat a solid lunch (meat, avocado, leftover roast vege, salad)
❌ No food for 3 hours
✅ Dinner with protein, fats and carbs

IT’S OKAY to not follow this 3 hour rule all the time but it’s worth keeping this in mind and following by @elycewintle

What I ate this week as a mum of 2 running to nutrition businesses.

My focus is always whole foods, polyphenols, diversity, ease, and yumness 💚 by @elycewintle

A little bit of intention and preparation goes a long way when it comes to digestion ✨

You could have the most nutritious diet, but if your gut is compromised, you won’t be absorbing the nutrients the way you should.

Swipe for simple ways to reduce bloating and get more out of the food you’re already eating!

I actually *hiss when people turn bright lights on 🤣

When you start paying attention to your light environment, you’ll become very sensitive to it.

There are days I can’t even bring myself to go to the gym in the morning because the fluorescent lights affect me.

Not in a “I don’t like them” kinda way, but “they are making my body feel stressed” kinda way. It repels me!

My body is in rhythm, so it knows what kind of light it needs at different times of the day.

Fluorescent and LED lights sit in the blue spectrum which is most abundant in the middle of the day.

In the morning before the sun is up, your cortisol is still in its natural rise. If you wake up and turn bright lights on or head to the gym for an early session, the artificial blue light hitting your eyes (and skin) accelerates the natural waking stress response (cortisol), which your body isn’t ready for. It’s getting midday light at 6am! 😵‍💫

If you’re already in a stressed state (a lot of mums), then you can be even more sensitive to this.

Then the same thing happens in reverse at night. When the sun goes down, your body starts producing melatonin (your sleep hormone). But artificial blue light after dark tells your brain it’s still midday, which means melatonin gets suppressed, cortisol stays elevated, and your body never gets the signal to wind down.

You’re essentially living in a state of artificial midday all day!

Blue light from the sun is natural and our bodies are designed for it, because it comes balanced with the full spectrum of light. Red, orange, yellow, green, infrared and UV.

Artificial blue light has none of that balance. It’s a static blue spike with none of the warm wavelengths, which our bodies were never designed for it.

Incandescent lights (found in lava lamls) are almost impossible to find now. Energy regulations pushed us toward LED to save energy, but it goes much deeper than that. These lights are designed to be stimulating and keep you alert and engaged…🤔

As a mum, it can be hard to get advice from other people telling you to be “less stressed”.

It’s not that you can’t lower stress as a mum, but often the advice I see online isn’t always, realistic?

Everyone has different circumstances, and what might be doable for one person won’t necessarily be doable for another.

Between sleepless nights, attending to children, running a household, working jobs ect… sometimes the most simple stress relievers can actually feel overwhelming to a mum.

30 minutes of meditating sounds simple, but to a mum with an over active nervous system who’s feeling tapped out, that can feel too much.

Some of the things I do to lower stress and feel less anxious don’t seem that obvious or typical, but in small moments each day, they add up and they’re doable for me✨

I’m sorry but is there anything actually better? I WILL WAIT! 💃🏼 by @elycewintle

This is a long one to watch, but it came off the back of a very regulated nervous system so it just flowed 🦋 if you watch it all, bless your heart!

When I’m child free, I absolutely lock myself in. I forget to eat and realise I’m starving, or I even forget to pee!

This isn’t a good place to operate from and although it only happens once per week, I can tell my body is dysregulated (cooked).

My life is full. I’m running two businesses and caring for two kids, homeschooling, social catch ups, keeping the house in order and everything else in between.

I sat down to work today and I just felt foggy! 😶‍🌫️

So, I practiced what I preach with all my clients and did some nervous system regulation.

That looked like making a nutritious lunch, sitting outside in the sun, taking 5 deep breaths and eating my food ever so slowly while I watched ants walking along the ground and noticed all the thoughts popping into my mind.

I genuinely felt my body calming down.

Now, when we’re constantly running on stress hormones, it puts pressure on our HPA axis (our stress response system) and that ripples into everything, from our menstrual cycle, our digestion and over time it can even contribute to gut dysbiosis.

You can eat all the right foods and take all the targeted supplements, but if your body is genuinely stressed, nothing you do will work because stress is SURVIVAL.

This is why I now build intentional downtime into my days, and it’s something I get every client focused on too.

It can be small like drinking your coffee outside, a few deep breaths before a meal, bare feet on the grass, a candlelit shower at night. It doesn’t have to be 30 minutes of meditation because for most mums, that’s not realistic and it comes with resistance.

Just start with something simple, feminine and grounding.
