tonight we celebrate 15 years of cole's bar with a staff and regular based art showcase! let me ramble a second about my favorite bar:

cole's was the first bar i'd ever been to. it taught me how to be alone in a room of strangers, how to regard myself and others in a public space. it introduced me to so many now familiar faces and a staff of characters that years later i call my friends and coworkers.
say what you will about this dimly lit bar (and im sure most of you can say a lot) but the people at the helm have always strived for it to be an everybody's bar type of bar. a safe space to learn and explore and drink for the low low. and a bar that doesn't tolerate anything below respect.
i was lucky enough to be hired off the street by Cole (yes, he's real) 3 years ago and working here will always be something i take immense pride and satisfaction in.
if you've lived in chicago in the last 15 years, chances are for better or worse you have a story within the graffitied walls and the off kilter checkered floors of this place. you've probably seen a really good show of a band you'd never heard of that's famous now, or watched a comedy open mic hosted by someone who's now on snl. you've probably seen hannibal buress fly past your gaze on a crowded night.

i'm grateful to be apart of a bar that's learning with us, and always has everybody's best interest in mind. i'm grateful to be at a bar that favors inclusivity over volume. i'm grateful to be at a bar that shows me humanity in all different flavors.

come celebrate 15 years of cole's tonight at 7pm! i've got a couple copies of 18x24 posters to sell ;) by @em.brlw
