Itā€™s been a long dark winter thatā€™s affected me more than Iā€™d expected but just wanted to mark the beginning of the changing seasons with some positive work news: After playing at LSFF earlier in the year ā€˜Blackoutā€™ continues its run at BFI Flare. dir: @c.d.urch prod: @solomongolding Also at Flare is Dragfox and itā€™s so nice to see such a heartwarming and powerful trans story continue to do well a year after its first screening dir: @ottventure prod: @owenthomas1995 I feel so lucky for my first feature film work to have been a few days of edit and mix duties for superstar supervising sound editor @sound.alinushka on Mad Bills To Pay, which has started its life at both Sundance and Berlinale 2025 dir: @joel_vrgs prod: @pedullino Designing and mixing gritty underground thriller Tapeworm was one of my favourite sound experiences of the last few years and I canā€™t wait for people to see it at its international premiere at Tampere in Finland in March dir: @africanwarlock prod: @ellaritchie__ Iā€™m trying to become more present both online and in my own life in the coming months so hopefully will have more updates to share soon xo by @em_makes_noise

Lucky enough to be able to travel out to LA recently with grad project @dragfox_animation where we won the Special Jury Prize at the @baftaus student BAFTAs šŸ¦ŠšŸŽ· Featuring the stellar voices of Ian McKellen and Divina De Campo, Dragfox follows the journey of young Sam who on their quest to understand their own identity encounters a neighbourhood fox who sparks a magical and musical adventure. // BLEACH // 2023 // DUBBING MIX ā€œBleachā€ was one of the projects I mixed at the NFTS and went on to be nominated for the Best of British Award at @irisprize and was subsequently shown on @channel4 last Autumn. The film follows main character Lloydā€™s spiral into isolation and self harm and was an intense and challenging mix for an intense and challenging film. A lot of time was spent in the dubbing theatre honing the rhythm of the film and finding the most powerful way to tell the story that really placed us inside Lloydā€™s mind through the sonic world of the film. Today marks one year of me being sober. I donā€™t really think of this post as a celebration more of just a way marker and an update on something I donā€™t really talk to a lot of people about. Quite often when people have found out about me no longer drinking alcohol theyā€™ll ask ā€œDo you feel better for it?ā€. I wish I could say yes, I really do, but in reality the answer is ā€œI donā€™tā€. Itā€™s not just the continued mental disregulation, intrusive thoughts and destructive tendencies that I used to use alcohol to try and hide from; itā€™s the guilt and shame I have from who I could often become and things I did when still drinking. I became a person I didnā€™t want to be from something that used to bring me the most joy. Iā€™ve been awful to people I care about and done things I can never take back and sometimes just cut people from my life altogether. A lot can happen in a year but after twelve months Iā€™m still learning and working on how to process these and find ways to positively move forward. Stopping drinking was never going to fix my problems, and it was foolish of me this time last year to believe that it would. What it has done is given me the space to not make things worse and to be able to focus on making things better. So do I feel better? No. Do I feel a glimmer of hope every now and then for the first time in a long time. I think Iā€™d be lying if I said I didnā€™t. Maybe one day Iā€™ll drink again but for now Iā€™m teetotal and trying to make the most I can from those moments of hope to do the best for me and those around me.
