Looked back over a trip to New Mexico this week. I reviewed plenty of best things to do lists to prepare for the stay. I’ll be back for the 3 parks I didn’t make it to & some of the lesser known but equally beautiful & vibrant cities.

Finally stopped by The Gift Shop over the weekend but there was an away sign on the door and I couldn’t wait long. I’ll have to go back some time to look around & find some new Black-owned products created by DMV entrepreneurs to support. by @em_pea

Amid all of the noise, what I need finds me.
Time well spent at Los Poblanos Historic Inn + Organic Farm.

Note: The signs ask that guests don’t go helping themselves to fruit trees. Max, the Farm Manager, approved the peach seen in my hand.

My first college roommate happened to be from Seattle. I remember asking what brought her to the East Coast and if I recall correctly, her parents wanted her to attend a HBCU and would pay for school if she chose one. I didn’t know a soul from the PNW and put it on my list of places to visit, but I wasn’t in a hurry. 20 years later my wanting to see a concert in a city I’d never visited is what finally placed me there. Walked over 13,000 steps a day exploring the different pockets of the city & stopping in vintage stores, record stores, galleries, museums, and of course Black-owned businesses (a must everywhere I go). S/O to the weather for being lovely and never raining.

A few places I went:
• Seattle’s original farmers market PIKE PLACE MARKET

🌊Lower & upper deck short hikes to see SNOQUALMIE FALLS a 268-foot waterfall

🌳Hiked to view 3 separate waterfalls at 2.5 mile TWIN FALLS. The trail is crowded and it took make 1.5 hrs.

⛴️Ferry ride over to BAINBRIDGE ISLAND for brunch.

• Went for a drink atop the 1914 SMITH TOWER observatory & speakeasy-style cocktail bar. They know they needed more than one server in there at that time, smh.

• Waterfront over by the University of Washington to eat at SAINT BREAD. I wanted a fried egg & cheese on melon pan but the only baked goods left were cookies & maybe I coffee cake? I was too late in the day 😩 I just know it would’ve been good.

I have good things to say about these 4 Black-Owned spaces:

• Communion Restaurant & Bar (James Beard Award nominated).
