Currently on view at the Armory is this beautiful painting by Ema Ri.

Ema Ri (b. 1988) is a queer-identified, Cuban American, Miami-based multidisciplinary artist. They received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Minor in Art History from New World School of the Arts in 2017.
Ri’s solo exhibitions include This Too Shall Pass, Locust Projects, Miami; To Live Without a Dying Sun, Fredric Snitzer Gallery, Miami (2025); In So Deep, Spinello Projects, Miami (2023); Undercurrent, Spinello Projects, Miami (2021); and Ouroboros, Dimensions Variable, Miami (2020).
Their work has been included in exhibitions at The Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach; Crisp-Ellert Art Museum, St. Augustine; Oolite Arts, Miami Beach; El Espacio 23, Jorge Pérez Private Collection; and the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, among others.

Creating ‘Let it all out’ brought an intense emotional release. For so long, I fought for tight control over my emotions, fearing the wreckage they might cause in my life based off past experiences. Control felt safe—like clinging to the edges of a pool just to navigate the water. Ultimately, allowing myself to be reckless and frustrated is precisely what broke that grip. By surrendering the demand for internal clarity, the canvas transformed into a space of profound catharsis: a watershed of experiences that led me to this drenched environment.

Come check out my most recent work, ‘The Garden of Eden Burns,’ at @fredricsnitzergallery ‘s group show Heath Index.

This large-scale oil painting blends moody greens, charcoal blacks, and luminous yellows. Sweeping vertical textures invite you to contemplate nature’s stormy light.

The title serves as a metaphor for humanity’s struggle to protect its core values and responsibilities, allowing power and greed to reign over the land. Yet, nature always teaches us resilience.

“These qualities, rich with metaphors in a spiritual connection to human existence, are why Ri is so drawn to depicting and working with flora. In This Way! (2026), bright orange subtropical buds with hints of chartreuse and purple leaves shoot energetically upward from a dense, forested backdrop, suggesting that we follow their metamorphic lead through life.”
