I like bird. I like cake. I like Bird Cake! 🕊🎂

I needed a break from a big butterfly painting that’s being stubborn, so I decided it was time for another cake, especially since my hubby and I were celebrating our 26th (!!!) anniversary! 🎉🎂

The bird was a happy surprise because as I was starting to paint the cake I spotted hints of a bird shape in the background right in the middle of the cake (see last photo), so I went with it! Can’t go wrong with a bird!

This is on 8” x 8” gallery- wrapped canvas and available ready to hang! $165 🎂🖼

Also… we need better bird emojis!

I never finished #21daysinmyartworld26 so this is for the 18th prompt CELEBRATE 🎉

The studio is all aflutter. 🦋✨ Two down, one to go.

Plus the big one that’s taking it’s time. It’ll get there… hopefully soon! 🦋

This feels like a deep season of change 🦋 which is the perfect time to get back to a few butterflies that have been hanging around the studio, waiting for me to assist them in the final stages of their metamorphosis. 🦋✨

Here is a peek at one that I *think* is done, although I need to let it sit for a few days just to make sure, BUT I was too excited to not share it! It has many many layers that built up as I was struggling to get it to where it felt right.

Once again it’s probably art imitating life as I was not sure I was wanting to come out of my own safe little cocoon.

Largest painting. Here’s a mural I painted many years ago of 4 windows and a palm in a basket. I also did a soft faux finish on all the walls, but it’s hard to see in the photos.

I used the simple style of windows and the views the client had across from this loft bedroom as inspiration for my painted windows. She also wanted the door to not be noticeable so I painted a “window” right across it and added the palm to make the door totally disappear! If you look closely next to the door you might notice I painted right over the light switch too!

I also added 2 butterflies to add to the trompe l’oeil (to fool the eye) optical illusion. This mural is one of my favorite things that I painted in a clients home! And I received THE BEST compliment. She said someone walked through the room and when they came back she asked how they liked the mural. What mural? The windows! What about about the windows? 🤷‍♀️😂

They didn’t realize they weren’t real!! 🎉🎨 YES!! That made my day!

If you swipe through you can also see a photo of the beginning stages of the windows and a young me being a dare-devil while painting the faux finish on a side wall 😅

Hi it’s me! I’m playing catch up with #21daysinmyartworld26
I’m going to skip a few to catch up. 😅

First here is day 10 Artist Selfie (thank you cheap Amazon phone tripod!) Nothing more to say about this 🫣😂

Then if you swipe to slide 3 you’ll see my Artist Shout Out for Day 12… art by my amazing art sister @jhamilton2911!! Hi Josie!! 🥰 I appreciate how much she loves just playing with paints and ceramics and experimenting!! It’s so inspiring to watch her… she’s so dedicated to keeping creative! 👏

Next for Day 14 the prompt is SOLD. This painting, “Fruitful Vessel” sold at a gallery a couple of years ago to an awesome couple. I came across this photo of it recently and was reminded of how much I liked the piece!

Ok that’s all for now! 💕

Where The Art Happens- My Art Studio. My creative space has evolved over the years. As a teen and young adult, it was at an easel and desk in my attic bedroom.

When I got married and we moved into a small apartment, I created art at an easel in our den or at the dining table. When we moved a year later, I created at a desk in the spare bedroom. Later it became a bigger but still pretty small, narrow area in part of that same bedroom after we put up walls in there to add a space for our son when he was born.

Then when we moved into our current house, I got this whole amazing room (shown above) to myself! It continues to evolve slowly (I want to add a sink!) but I love it so much. The newish skylight is my favorite addition so far.

INSPIRATION. I’m inspired by many things, but what it always comes back to for me is nature. There’s so much beauty that surrounds us, we just need to pay attention to see it.

What I appreciate is even when times are tough, there are always trees swaying in a breeze, birds and butterflies flitting about, and flowers that you can put in a vase on your windowsill. They serve as gentle reminders that the sun will still rise, rain can bring rainbows, and even if it doesn’t feel like it, everything will be ok.

“Current challenge” and “current palette” are the next prompts for #21daysinmyartworld26 . I’m combining days 6 and 7 together (6/7!) since I was gone yesterday.

Day 6 CURRENT CHALLENGE. My main challenge is finding… ok, MAKING time to get into my studio to paint. Life has been… let’s just say “interesting” and keeping me on my toes lately, BUT I’m determined to paint more regularly this year. I was able to do art EVERY day a few years ago so I KNOW it’s possible to paint at least a few times a week!

🎨 Day 7 CURRENT PALETTE. These photos show one of my favorite colors to use. 💙 I love using deep blues including deep peacock blue and turquoise. You can see this repeated through my art over the years, along with greens, yellow ochre, and sometimes accents of red or orange etc. I also love using gold paint or gold leafing when a piece calls for it. ✨

I hope you’re enjoying learning a bit more about my process. I’m loving doing this challenge! It’s @taraleaver ‘s 10th and final year of hosting it. Thank you Tara! 💝

FAVORITE TOOLS. Two of my favorite tools I like to use to create my art are BRUSHES and STENCILS. I seriously can’t imagine a world without paintbrushes. Using them is like magic… with just paint and your imagination… suddenly a whole world can appear on your canvas! ✨👩🏻‍🎨

My love for stencils began MANY years ago when I used to paint faux finishes on peoples walls (and sometimes furniture). I mostly did finishes freehand, but I loved when I got to use stencils… layering glazes for a soft pattern or to create special touches above a door etc. Scroll to see examples of stencil work on my art and a couple picts of my past work with stencils on walls.

This is day 5 of @taraleaver ‘s wonderful #21daysinmyartworld26 ✨

ART BOOKS. Here’s most (but not all!) of my art journals that I’ve worked in. Some are totally finished, some are not. A few of them have just one or two random pages that never got finished, but they will one day.

This is day 4 of @taraleaver ‘s #21daysinmyartworld26

The prompt is art book, but I figured these ARE art books 😁🎨
