The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize to Navanethem “Navi” Pillay for her efforts to promote peace and international law.

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2026 goes to a person who with exceptional courage and integrity has led the way towards a more comprehensive global legal order. This year’s laureate has been instrumental in ensuring that war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are prosecuted.

Navi Pillay’s commitment to universal legal principles and her firm moral compass are constants in a long career.

Born into a family of Indian Tamil origin under apartheid in Durban, South Africa, Pillay became a lawyer and legal pioneer, confronting deep structural discrimination, segregation and exclusion. A common thread runs from her early work defending Nelson Mandela and others who stood up against apartheid to her service as a judge in some of the key international court cases of our time.

This year’s laureate has significantly enlarged the scope and impact of international law. She has served as a judge on the High Court in South Africa, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Court. She was the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and, until recently, she chaired the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Today Navi Pillay is a judge on the International Court of Justice in the case where Myanmar stands accused of genocide.

Navi Pillay is one of the great defenders of international legal principles in our time. Her distinguished career reminds us of the need to support, fortify and expand the global rule of law. Today, we proudly hosted the 1st Africa Tapas Competition 2026 at Prue Leith Culinary Institute, alongside @emb.pretoria, @e.spain_, and @spainistapas, bringing together seven exceptional chefs for an unforgettable celebration of creativity, technique and the art of Spanish tapas.

Our students had the incredible opportunity to witness these chefs in action, learn from their techniques and experience the intensity of a professional culinary competition up close. These are the moments that inspire the next generation of culinary leaders.

Tonight, the Prue Leith Restaurant celebrated the flavours of Spain with our Sabores de España, Flavours of Spain Dinner. 🇪🇸

Hosted in our fine dining restaurant, guests enjoyed a five-course journey through Spanish gastronomy, accompanied by a selection of Spanish wines.

For this special evening, we had the pleasure of collaborating with @cheffing_with_jazz, a tapas and Spanish cuisine expert, whose passion, creativity and exceptional knowledge made her a wonderful addition to our kitchen.

Working alongside our Prue Leith chefs and students, @cheffing_with_jazz brought the flavours of Spain beautifully to life.

The menu featured Socarrat de Paella Española, Croqueta Española, Bacalao con Teja de Aceituna, Salmorejo Andaluz, Cordero Español with Patatas Bravas and Arroz Negro with saffron sauce, before ending on a sweet note with Leche Frita, Chocolate y Chile and churros.

A heartfelt thank you to the @emb.pretoria, Angel Moreton from @e.spain_ , and @cheffing_with_jazz for their collaboration, expertise and contribution to such a special evening, and to our incredible Prue Leith chefs and students for bringing it all together.

And to everyone who dined with us tonight, thank you for joining us for a memorable celebration of Spanish food, wine, culture and hospitality.❤️🇪🇸

🥁🇪🇸🇿🇦 Spain and South Africa meet through music at @womadsouthafrica 2026!

Cajoneada brought the distinctive sound of the Spanish cajón to both the Artscape Theatre Centre and the V&A Waterfront, bringing together Spanish and South African musicians in two vibrant celebrations of rhythm, creativity and cultural diversity.

Led by Pepe Zapata, director of Cajoneada (@cajonexpo) and Spanish musician Vicente Gelo, and joined by Thandi Swartbooi, the Women Unite ensemble, young Cape Town drummers, the cajón became a bridge between cultures and generations.

A powerful reminder of the ability of music to connect people, celebrate diversity and create new spaces for cultural exchange.

We are also delighted that Pepe Zapata and Thandi Swartbooi received the WOMAD Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising their contribution to music and to the spirit of collaboration and cultural exchange at the heart of the festival.

A special thank you to @thandiswaartbooi, @blaq_sakayi and @mihlali.mayeza for joining us and making this cross-cultural musical encounter so special.

D 25 OCT-BARCELONA - @jamboreelivemusic 3 (dentro del 60º Festival de de Barcelona @bcnjazzfest)

Un proyecto de colaboración e intercambio cultural que comenzó en 2019 gracias al apoyo del Consulado Honorario de España en Antananarivo, que nos invitó a participar en la III SemaineFlamenco de Madagascar, comenzando una relación de cooperación y amistad que continuó en otros viajes en 2024 y 2025, dando lugar, finalmente, a un disco muy especial, en el que dos representantes de dos culturas muy lejanas se disponen de la mejor manera para dialogar y construir música nueva a partir de las tradiciones malgaches e ibéricas.
Va a ser un placer tocar juntos este repertorio en esa semana de octubre, poniendo en práctica la teoría principal: "Si podemos tocar juntos, podemos vivir juntos".
Os invitamos a asistir a esta ceremonia de cariño por la música hecha por seres humanos.

✈️ The 2026 edition of Africa Aerospace and Defence (AAD), one of Africa’s leading exhibitions for the aerospace, defence and security sectors, brings together industry leaders and key stakeholders from across the continent and beyond.

The Ambassador of Spain to South Africa, accompanied by the Economic Counsellor, visited AAD 2026, meeting with representatives of leading Spanish companies Airbus, Indra and Escribano, and highlighting Spain’s strong presence in the sector.
