🐝Book review - I Think My Therapist Hates Me: A Memoir by Chris Olsen🐝

my thoughts: I’m very much a casual fan of Chris Olsen, I’ll only really watch his videos/content when it comes up on my feed but I always enjoy it so I was really excited to read this book and learn more about his life. I knew Chris had his struggles with addiction but I didn’t realise just how deep they were and how hard he has worked to get to where he is today. I was really inspired by Chris and his story and this is another great reminder that what you see on the internet is really only the tip of the iceberg and there is so much else going on in people’s lives. I thought this was a great insight into just how important self-love is for not only one’s wellbeing but survival.

synopsis: Chris Olsen is a social media star and mental health advocate and in this memoir he revisits his childhood trauma, addiction, and his road to recovery. Structured around his sessions with his therapist Lizzie, Olsen revisits moments that defined who he is today. Behind the dark humour is an extremely vulnerable look into Chris’ life and tells the story of incredible bravery and the importance of embracing your truth.

in honour of mental health month here in Aus, here’s a few books that have mental health representation in them. mental health is such an important topic that we should all be speaking about way more often. You really never know what anyone is going through at any given time, so it’s so important to always treat everyone kindly. I also have found that some of these books have been incredibly helpful for me when i’m going through something or generally just to learn more about mental health.

Q: is there a book that has mental health representation that stands out for you?

🐝Book review - The Things We Never Say by Elizabeth Strout🐝

my thoughts: wow this was a great read! It really made me reflect on how many things we all don’t talk about ranging from topics of mental health to politics. It was interesting to see how sometimes ignorance really is bliss whereas when other things were finally spoken about things really did change for the better. Artie was a very interesting character to follow and really highlights how you never really know what someone is going through and it really is best to treat everyone with kindness no matter what. I thought it was also really interesting that this book took place in the not so distant past.

synopsis: Artie Damm is a man with a secret. He spends his days teaching high schoolers history and providing a kind word or correcting casual cruelties to students who need it. He attends dinner parties with his wife and takes his sailboat out on weekends. He is by all accounts present and alive. But inside he is isolated and is consumed by the question - how is it we know so little about one another, even those closest to us? And then one day Artie learns of a secret that could upend his entire life and forces him on a new trajectory.
