Is this a job or a calling? We have noticed a shift in our staff over the past few months. We are small group- just four women- and my husband and I. We have a coordinator, a cook, a teacher and our head artisan and translator! A few months ago it was closing time and we were getting things ready to close up for the day when a kid came running and knocking on the door for help. One of our Embera kids was in crisis out on the side walk about 50 yards away. Our staff went to see what was wrong. His family member had pulled a tooth earlier and he was having excessive bleeding, hemorrhaging from his mouth- which huge blood clots. It was scary. He didn’t have the strength to walk or even call out for help. Our staff was able to call an ambulance and get him to the hospital. We found out later he has a rare blood clotting disorder and he was hospitalized for weeks. If he had not received help in time he probably would have died on the sidewalk. The staff stayed several hours past working hours to attend to this need. At our staff meeting the next week- we talked about how this job is not just a job where we do the bare minimum and go home. But there are women and children who need us to show up in sacrificial ways. I am so proud of our staff of how I have seen them these past few months go above and beyond in love and service to the Embera families. We have a 19 year old girl going through a crisis and our staff the past few weeks have been taking turns letting her stay with them, and providing food and clothes and sacrificing. Our work is very messy and difficult, but also beautiful! I am so grateful for our team! What an example for us all! We need your HELP! We are trying to raise the funds we need for our budget at Casa Embera for next year and we have a way that you can help us! We are starting the Christmas season and many of you will be having events for women at your church- a Christmas Tea or luncheon or a work party! Or maybe you want a creative way to connect with neighbors or friends! I CHALLENGE YOU to organize an Embera Bead Project Party for us called a Party in a Box! We send you a box of product and a square reader and you can host a party at your home, work, or church and sell the jewelry for us! You will get a free pair of earrings and a T-shirt for hosting! And all the proceeds will go towards helping us reach our budget for next year! We also have some video resources we have available online about the mission behind the jewelry that you can show and use in your party. And the best part is when your friends purchase from Embera Bead Project all the proceeds go towards helping us keep this ministry going! It’s a gift that has a HUGE impact! It’s tempting to go find a cheap gift at TJ Max or Target- but this year help us share these Embera gifts that are hand made by artisans fleeing the armed conflict and the profits go to run an amazing ministry called Casa Embera! You can sign up now at this link!! https://reincorporated.org/pages/partybox-start?srsltid=AU7gw4UHjUdiZ0TrAV466fxa2-ULILh0mFHYoihg14sC9Mz9WcKEowNZ by @emberabeadproject

Something that can only be explained as a miracle has happened! The little Embera boy that has been on a ventilator in ICU with possible brain damage from a tragic event, has been healed! They were able to take him off the vent and he awoke and was able to eat and talk and is doing so well! He is now up and playing and so ready to leave the hospital! We are praising God for his miraculous recovery. The ICU nurse told me he had been very very sick and they thought they might lose him- and his recovery was a miracle. We pray for his continued healing and for his future care. Today I was able to give him a big hug and tell him how much we all love him and are so grateful for His life and how God has saved him. What a praise! Thank you all for praying! Prayer is the work! @suenosyhuellas by @emberabeadproject

We had a big celebration breakfast this week for Love and Friendship month! But this time we cooked a big southern breakfast for the staff. We had biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, pancakes, eggs and hash browns. We brought Cracker Barrel to Medellin. They were brave to try some new foods. We exchanged gifts and it was fun to guess who our “amigo secreto” or secret friend was. We are grateful for our staff and all they do! by @emberabeadproject

This has been one of the hardest weeks we have ever had at Casa Embera. A tragedy struck on Wednesday, and we can’t share details here but one of our 10 year old boys is fighting for his life in ICU on a ventilator. There is a deep heaviness and sadness over us all! Our whole staff and community are feeling it. Please pray with us for this child- that he will be healed and be able to live a normal life! Pray for us and our team as we try to minister to the family and to the kids who were witnesses to the event. Every life is worth so much in God’s eyes! @suenosyhuellas taken in Medellín, Colombia by @emberabeadproject

Casa Embera is full of women and kids! But we have one male figure of the house- my husband Travis! We are grateful for him and all the behind the scenes things he does for Casa Embera! He does all the budgeting and grant writing and follow ups and reports! Which requires a lot of work, that no one sees or knows about that keeps things running smoothly! He is always willing to help with broken things around the house or to put up shelves and other handy man needs!! He is our language and culture expert! Who studies and speaks the language well! He is our spiritual leader in word and deed! He also brings a lot of humor as he lovingly gives us all a hard time! Sometimes he has to be our security guard when we go to sketchy places! We are grateful for the positive male figure we have in Travis- who models kindness, wisdom, patience, brotherly love, compassion, and self control! We are so glad Travis is part of our team and we couldn’t do it without him! The indigenous families and kids love Travis! They call him Embera gringo and love that he eats all their foods and jokes with them in language! And I am especially grateful for him as my partner in this life!! We love you Travis and are so grateful for you! @suenosyhuellas taken in Medellín, Colombia by @emberabeadproject
