Presenting The Ember in wonderland Collection (my 1st I’m the designer I made it all from scratch mostly with curtains )

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” 🧚🏽‍♀️✨❤️‍🔥

Honestly, I used to think I was a “Ember of all trades.” Over time, I realized I’m really a polymath and that explains a lot.

I’ll choose one at a time, but never just one.

This fellowship with @sew.modest took me from beginner sewing classes, to intermediate, to fellowship — where we explored color, texture, emotion, mental wellbeing, sewing techniques, and how fashion can tell a story. (The classes were from January to august)

While balancing my businesses, DJing, festivals, teaching, panels, and shows, I had two weeks (maybe less 😭) to create a 12-piece collection.

So I used what I had: curtains, scraps, borrowed machines, helping hands, adaptive skills, and a whole lot of happy accidents.

The collection especially my Time Keeper look with its gears, keys, scraps, corsetry, draping, and gold became a reflection of how I move through the world: collecting pieces, transforming them, and making something new.

I’m incredibly proud of what came from such a chaotic and beautiful process.

Thank you to my Sew Modest instructors, fellows, models, family, friends, and @homiehangz DJs for every helping hand, machine, idea, and moment of support. ❤️‍🔥

Don’t let the art live in you. Express yourself. God gave it to you for a reason.

🧚🏽‍♀️✨❤️‍🔥

✨SPIRIT OF DETROIT AWARD ✨

Being born and raised in Detroit taught me how powerful community can be. I grew up seeing my family and the people around me make things work no matter what they had access to, and that mindset became a huge part of who I am.

@homiehangz was built the same way. A lot of what we created came from borrowed equipment, people sharing what they had, family helping behind the scenes, and friends believing in the vision enough to show up every time. We didn’t have unlimited resources, but we had each other, and somehow that kept turning into something real.

Receiving the Spirit of Detroit Award means a lot because it reflects not only my journey, but the impact Homie Hangz has had on people around us. Seeing artists connect, people find community, and creatives feel like they finally had a space to belong made every stressful moment worth it.

I carry Detroit and my family in everything I do, and I’m grateful for everyone who helped build this with me. 🖤

Shout to all the other recipients and testimonials today!!

Thank you!! by @emberlafi

Ember LaFiamma is a Detroit DJ, singer, curator and multidisciplinary artist with a wide ranging ear behind the decks. Her sets are built as a complete experience, not simply a playlist of tracks, with careful pacing and a strong read of the room. She knows when to let a groove settle in, when to change direction and when to push the crowd harder. Ember is back with us for BOUNCE THAT tonight.

THIS SATURDAY ‼️

BOUNCE THAT is back once more! Saturday, September 19th, the fourth iteration takes over two stages at Northern Lights Lounge.

DJ Assault has been at the center of the night from the start. His accelerated funk and fast, bass heavy approach to Detroit dance music have shaped the sound of the city since the 90s and remain at the heart of what the night is about.

DJ Psycho and Fullbodydurag round out the inside. Psycho brings decades of experience and deep crates, moving across electro, funk, techno and beyond. Fullbodydurag brings a newer Detroit perspective to the night, with a fast, hard hitting approach rooted in bass, club music and ghettotech.

On the patio, Ember LaFiamma is joined by Jamea and Welsman playing together as Ebony & Ivory. Ember brings a wide ranging ear that stretches from R&B and soul into bass and club music. Jamea and Welsman come together for a high energy back to back, pulling from Jersey club, footwork, bass and ghettotech.
