In November 2010, my lovely mum died of cancer. Her illness basically bookmarked my entire childhood; she got sick before I turned 3 and passed away in my final year of highschool.

I wrote an essay about growing up around a terminal illness, which was published this morning in mirarchive. It would mean a lot to me if you gave it a read.

This second picture is from Christmas 2007 and features the black chemo hat I mention somewhere in the text. by @embwe

🎥MUSIC VIDEO OUT TODAY!🎦

Really excited to finally share the music video for the beautiful piece 'Balbulus' for solo double bass and three double bass 'shadows' written by José Manuel Serrano @velutumbra77

Video design and production was by the wonderful Emma Werner @embwe who has worked her magic to create something incredibly amazing to bring this piece to life (as well as being a total dream to work with!)

Huge thank you to Aaron Holloway-Nahum @aaronhnahum for recording and producing the audio, and for many moments of all-purpose enabling! And thanks to the generosity of the @riotensemble family for making this video recording happen 💜

Available on the @riotensemble YouTube channel now, and link in my bio also! by @embwe

Filming Day 1 with @bass_schofield and @embwe at the @southbyproductions #dbsoundscape studio. We previously recorded @velutumbra77 extraordinary Balbulus in the studio, using #enspace to solve the normal issues of such a dry room.

A fully spatialised mix is now playing in the studio, with video and binaural version to follow soon. Keep your eyes and ears out!

Artist residencies at SRM give artists free studio space and time to develop musical and artistic projects.

We welcomed Héloïse Werner and Emma Werner as residents at the studio. Soprano and composer Héloïse Werner is currently an Associate Artist at Wigmore Hall and has been described by The Times as “quickly becoming a latter-day Cathy Berberian or Meredith Monk”. She is a recipient of the Prix Nadia et Lili Boulanger 2025 from the Académie des Beaux Arts and the PRSF Composers’ Fund 2025. Emma Werner is a writer, filmmaker, and multimedia producer. She also holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge.

Together, they create works that explore ways of communicating science and human behaviour through music and performance. Their recent collaborations include Les Leçons du Mardi (Wigmore Hall), M87 (BBC Radio 3’s 25 for 25 Sounds of the Century), Declared Extinct (Ars Nova Copenhagen), and close-ups (Festival Présences).

During their time at Studio Richter Mahr, Héloïse and Emma developed a new iteration of their piece close-ups as an interactive audiovisual installation. This new work portrays characters across multiple screens through wordless vocal exploration and physical performance, and is intended for presentation in galleries, art festivals or public performance spaces. by @embwe
