#arquitectura #architect #tudor #architecture #stairs #escaleras #londres #london #liberty #timber #madera #bestoftheday❤️ by @emeldhir

The frieze is titled “Drama through the Ages” and the sculptor was Gilbert Bayes.
Located in the facade of the Saville Theatre opened in 1931. It was designed in a beautiful Art Deco Style by the architect Sir Thomas Bennett

Gilbert Bayes was a prolific artist and sculptor during the first half of the 20th Century. His works can still be found on buildings across the country and perhaps his most famous work is the large clock and statue combination “The Queen of Time” above the main entrance to Selfridges in Oxford Street.

The frieze is 129 feet in length and tells the story of drama across time and from left to right starts with Minstrels, Players and St. George. The part in this picture is the imperial Rome and bacchanalia.

In the sixties the theatre was transformed into Cinema. It was the Odeon Covent Garden until its closure in 2024. Sadly permanently closed

May the force be with you. I always can imagine that the corridors of London Bridge (tube station) are similar to the interior of an imperial cruiser. Be careful because at any moment Darth Vader can appear. Yes, I know, I am a geek person.

Last week we went to a small town close to the sea, a place famous for the oysters, Whitstable. In a casual walk we found this hidden jewel, an amazing Art Deco building.
The Oxford Picture Theatre opened on the 11th of December 1912 and was situaded on Oxford Street, Whitstable. The Oxford Picture Theatre was a small purpose built Cinema with just one level of seating and no balcony, but in 1936 it was rebuilt on a much larger scale. Unusually, the new Cinema was constructed around the old one so that it could remain open whilst the new Cinema was being built. Once the new Cinema was finished it was a simple matter to demolish the old one inside which took just three weeks.

The new Oxford Cinema, as it was called when it opened on the 27th of July 1936, was designed by local architect W. M. Bishop in the Art Deco Style, with seating for 850 on two levels, Stalls and one Circle. The Cinema opened with a showing of the 1936 film 'Jack of All Trades', and would go on to be a successful venue for Whitstable residents to watch the latest releases for many years.

However, in 1962 the Cinema was turned over to Bingo use for many years until it was finally closed in 2010.

Today the former Cinema building is in use as a J. D. Wetherspoon Public House, which opened after a refurbishment in August 2011 as the 'Peter Cushing', named after the much loved film actor who lived in the Town. In the interior you can find the original film projector, photos and posters of Peter Cushing films. Sherlock Holmes, and a lot of horror movies

Siempre mirando hacia adelante lleno de ilusión. taken in London, United Kingdom by @emeldhir
