Chapter 28

Twenty-seven pages folded behind me,
dog-eared with laughter,
watermarked by loss,
smelling faintly of midnight decisions
and perfume from nights I swore would last forever.

But this this is Chapter 28.

Not the beginning,
not the ending,
but the part of the story
where the main character finally
starts becoming themselves on purpose.

At twenty-eight,
I no longer romanticize every goodbye.
I know some doors close
because peace has a better sense of direction than I do.

I have learned
that healing is not a straight line,
that loneliness can still teach tenderness,
and that strength rarely arrives loudly.
Sometimes it enters quietly
like sunlight through blinds
on a morning you almost gave up on.

Chapter 28 tastes like confidence
without needing permission.
Like choosing softness
without confusing it for weakness.
Like looking in the mirror
and recognizing both the survivor
and the dreamer standing there together.

There are still mountains ahead,
still unanswered questions,
still nights where the future feels too large for my hands.
But I carry something now
I did not have before:
proof that I can make it through.

So here’s to twenty-eight to deeper roots,
lighter baggage,
and the courage to outgrow old versions of myself
without apology.

May this chapter be filled with
love that stays,
friendships that feel like home,
work that means something,
and moments so beautiful
they make time stop long enough to notice.

And if life is a book,
then let Chapter 28 be the page
where I stop shrinking,
stop waiting,
and finally read my own name
like it belongs in the story all along.
