PROJECT SPOTLIGHT — EPISODE 03 ⚡

A server room is only as resilient as the infrastructure supporting it.

For this Cape Town CBD project, Emerald Infrastructure Solutions delivered a turnkey 25m² server-room environment designed around Tier II principles, with a 99.741% availability target.

The infrastructure was planned before the raised floor and server cabinets were installed, allowing the power, cooling, fire protection and connectivity systems to operate as one coordinated environment.

The completed solution includes:

⚡ 10 × 42U server cabinets
⚡ Separate A and B feeds from two 30kVA UPS systems
⚡ Underfloor power routing to the cabinets and patch room
⚡ A new 165kVA standby generator with automatic changeover
⚡ Two 30kW CRAC units providing N+1 cooling resilience
⚡ Underfloor conditioned-air distribution
⚡ VESDA early-warning detection
⚡ Fire-alarm and FM200 suppression integration

Every layer was planned, integrated and commissioned to support critical workloads, migration continuity and future growth.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT — EPISODE 02 ⚡

As this Cape Town manufacturing facility expanded, its standby power infrastructure needed to grow with it.

The project was delivered in two phases. A dedicated 460kVA generator was installed for the original production wing, followed later by a separate 440kVA system when the second production wing was developed.

Delivering the two systems involved far more than positioning generator sets. The work included:

⚡ Generator-room preparation
⚡ Structural modifications
⚡ Specialist rigging and lifting
⚡ Ventilation and custom exhaust systems
⚡ Electrical reticulation and ATS integration
⚡ Mains-parallel synchronisation
⚡ Testing and commissioning

Each generator serves its own production plant, with no-break transfer capability helping to maintain uninterrupted production.

Two production plants. Two dedicated standby systems. Infrastructure built to grow with the facility.

For this occupied commercial building in Cape Town’s CBD, our team delivered:

⚡ 57.2kWp solar PV
☀️ 104 solar panels
🔌 48kW hybrid inverter capacity
🔋 86.4kWh battery storage

Restricted access. A complex roofscape. Existing HVAC equipment. Working at height. And zero room for unnecessary disruption.

The installation was carefully planned and completed over three weekends, with safety built into every move.

The result is an integrated solar and battery system designed to reduce grid reliance, provide backup capability and strengthen long-term energy security.

UPS RUNTIME CALCULATOR

Estimate how long a UPS battery configuration may support the connected load.

Enter the:
• UPS load and power factor
• Battery quantity and voltage
• Battery Ah rating
• Number of parallel strings
• Inverter efficiency
• Battery ageing allowance
• Depth of discharge or end-cell voltage

The calculator returns an estimated runtime and the key battery and discharge values behind the result.

It is an early-stage planning tool—not a final battery selection. Manufacturer discharge curves, battery condition, temperature, measured load, required autonomy and site conditions must still be technically validated.
