I had the privilege of exploring Alaska and Canada with @anna_eatz_bananas last August. I say privilege bc any time spent with Anna is a joy and privilege. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable of her environment but she fills space with the enjoyment of life. Plant life, human life, humorous connections of it all pours out of Anna.
She’s pretty amazing.
In looking back on our adventures this wkend (MLK wkend), I read a story post I wrote in frustration of Alaskan politics and non local tour companies that take advantage and use their power/influence for their own destructive benefits.
The reflection close of that post is what I hope to carry with me no longer as a reactionary thought to oppressive corporations but a personal way to live. Transforming negativity to life giving connections pouring into environment, into humanity.
This wkend I’ll be reflecting on:
Experience in life what you give to others.
When I thought this in Aug of last yr, my response to seeing political / corporate oppression was that those companies would experience all they give.
Now, in January, in reflection, I’m realizing I can flip this thought into a force of life giving life.
A great way to pour positivity in the world is stop focusing on those things I have no control over and focus on what I can give to the world. In focusing on what I give to the world, life, light, love, I think that is a great response to negativity.
May you also experience in your life what you give to others.

Respect.
This weekend I am co-hosting three guests from Canada as they spend the wkend with friends and family for a funeral they are attending.
When greeting the Canadians, I immediately felt joy, comfort, belonging, respected, and a desire to be overly kind and respectful.
How is that possible!? Lol
They are Canadian! Of Course!
It is rare I give my personal cell number to guests I co-host, but there is something different about Canadians, or at least my Canadian experiences.
I gave my cell number to the guests humorous explaining that I do not give my cell number to guests but felt a kindness connection with them.
They, in turn, joked that they often get that ‘ Canadian’ treatment.
Last Aug, I spend 1 day in Canada. These guests brought back wonderful memories of my day trip also full laughs and respect of life.
I love this picture I took at the Canadian and American border. To me, it is a hope that America and myself will continue to be influenced by the ppl of Canada.

Day One.
Real Talk. While my time in #alaska was short (10days), the topic that both inspired and troubled me is that of our relationship with our planet. Alaska has a lot of people living in respectful relationship with the land/earth/planet. There are also those that are the extreme opposite. It was uncommon to find those in the middle.
For me, it was important to not travel like a tourist but to go, be, live, as locals live. That mindset brought me to this docking (local hang out) area next to a walking/biking trail leading to the Mendenhall glacier area.
This is a reflection for what I observed in Juneau. This is a boat and his man.
My C.S. Lewis peeps get that. A Boat and his man.

Day One.
Until planing this Alaska trip, I was unaware, the capital city of Alaska, Juneau, can only be entered and exited by plane or boat.
During my first day, I stopped at all the places I could along highway 7.
Discovering The Shrine of Saint Theresa lead me to having the best day in Juneau a few days later. I’ll post about that later.

Day One.
During this time of yr in #juneaualaska the sun doesn’t fully set or rise. Looking back at my first day is hilarious. I started it off at 4am, 8am ATL time. By noon in Juneau, I had hiked all the hikes on my list for the three full days I’d planned on hiking in Juneau.
Reflections on first day travels. - Always have a plan a, b, c, d, e, and the spirit relaxfully embracing what the day offers. It is okay to go outside the plan.
