Something amazing happened in December. My sisters and I worked together to organize a 13 person camping trip on a desert island with the 5 of us, some husbands, a finacee, two toddlers, and a few brothers-in-law. It felt like we had arrived into adulthood as we fostered our own adventures, provided for our guests, and nurtured the next generation. ⁠
1. @huntermatson steals the show in this fit but @hofmannreece was the hero that morning. Because getting the boat into the water was a mission and he handled it like a real man!!! ⁠

Long distance relationships with your family are really hard. People don’t talk about this enough. Sometimes, at the end of a long day, all I want is to go to my sister’s house and just sit with her while she does her laundry. But that’s the compromise you make when your career and your craft are tied to a location. Last month, I got to spend 3 solid weeks with all of my sisters and my parents in Miami. It wasn’t planned and I don’t know when that will ever happen again. Because planning to get together with a family of 13 people is almost impossible. And as tight as it was to squeeze me, Hallery, Hunter, Hunter’s cat Goose and her husband Julian into my parent’s house (with its paper thin walls), I actually got to live with my family again for the first time in decades. And every time I got pissed that someone had eaten my food or annoyed at my dad for being so loud in the morning or frustrated that I had to clean out someone else’s mess from the car, I’d remind myself “You’re gonna miss this some day.” And here I am, in the city of angels, missing my family dearly. by @emerymatson

BOOTSY GOES TO HEAVEN is a ten minute short film (and proof of concept for a feature) about a woman who owns a funeral parlor for pets and helps her clients process their grief in unusual ways. Think EDWARD SCISSOR HANDS or BABE with a touch of Emery Matson. We shoot September 12, 13, & 14th and we’re still looking for financial support! Kickstarter link in bio.

On our way to Austin!!! So excited to take THE CHASTITY SWEATER on the road. Thank you @fantastic.fest and @drafthouse for having us! This film started out as a fun project between Ben Buxton and myself and just kept growing (especially once we got @betsyholt4 involved). We shot it all around Echo Park. Many of my neighbors and friends are in it, including one of the best librarians from the LAPL.

Cute moments from @wtfestival … we saw 8 pieces in 3 days. My heart is full, my mind is well fed. Bravo to @jeremyoharris and the entire WTF team for some really elevated curation that left me reflecting on the performance of gender and the powerful outcome of blending mediums in a really understated way. And I was guided by @jeremyhersh whose encyclopedic knowledge of theater made the entire trip feel like a masterclass. by @emerymatson
