A love letter to home by @emhersbach
THROUGH THE BORDERS OF HEL(L) 70K in. Randomly finding the energy to pick up the pace. Flying the last 6K through the dark, knowing it would finally be over. No energy left to laugh or chat — just one foot after the other, one meter closer to the finish. A mini cry at the end because we fucking did thát?! A cheer for the ones still running. And the last 100 meters together with the girls, finishing as we started. by @emhersbach
ON THE WAY TO HEL(L) Seven legs. Two hours each. One on the bike, one on the run, switching every 2 km. Chatting, refueling, burning throats of the sugar-y gels. No music — just voices, and thoughts. Two-hour naps in a moving car, then onto the next one — waking up five minutes before you start, confused, tired, slightly annoyed, being in pain… and still going to Hel(l). PRE HEL(L) This June, I did this crazy thing. After doing a half-marathon in April, I guess I wasn’t done yet… so I joined an amazing group of women to Poland for Border to Hel — a long-distance ultra-marathon relay. 470-something km. 6 women. From sunrise to the second sunset. We were the only all-women team, technically disqualified because we had a crew — the best crew — who drove us, fed us, supported us, motivated us. Some people didn’t take us seriously… but fuck it. We were there to show the strength of women’s bodies and minds. That you don’t have to be a (male) professional athlete. My body ran 76 km in 41 hours. Together, we finished the whole thing. We didn’t end up last. We didn’t drop out. We didn’t give up. Think twice before underestimating women again. Thank you to these women and incredible crew. I needed a little break from running and everything around it, but next year again? Thank you @ridarsport for making this happen Images by @rubenschmitz & @niklasthyen Additional crew rockstars @willbrunker @ximena.davis @marc_mat ❤️ by @emhersbach
