Jesus Girl
Helping young women navigate Love, dating and relationships
Not always gonna hold your hand but it’s all love still
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
If we haven’t met yet, hi, I’m Emiké .

For years, I struggled with insecurity, self-doubt, unhealthy emotional patterns, and trying to find my worth in other people’s validation.

What I eventually discovered is that healing isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about becoming aware of who you’ve been, why you’ve been that way, and choosing differently.

Today, I share my story, creating content that helps women understand the psychology behind their emotional patterns, relationships, self-worth, and healing journey through emotional growth, self-awareness, and faith.

Around here, we talk about:

✨ Why you keep attracting the same type of people

✨ How trauma can disguise itself as love

✨ Building genuine self-respect

✨ Healing emotionally without losing yourself

✨ Becoming the woman God created you to be

If you’re tired of surface-level advice and you’re ready for deeper conversations about healing, identity, relationships, and growth, you’re in the right place.

So hit the “Follow” button to tag along this journey with me and other women like yourself that are determined to let go of old patterns and choosing to intentionally build a better life for themselves🤍 by @emikeaigberua

Hi, I’m Emike.

And I’ve been insecure, anxiously attached, and desperate for love for as long as I can remember. I stayed in relationships that hurt me. I accepted things I knew I shouldn’t have. And I spent so much of myself trying to please people, keep them happy, and make sure they didn’t leave.

I thought the secret to being loved was becoming more lovable. More understanding. More patient. Less…demanding.

I spent so much of my life trying to figure out how to be loved, without realizing that I didn’t even know how to love myself.

And because I was so afraid of losing people, I didn’t realize I was slowly losing myself.

Eventually, after enough heartbreak, disappointment, and emotional exhaustion, I got tired of being that woman. And I realized that if I wanted different, I had to become a different.

So I started doing the work.

Learning how to love myself.
Learning how to regulate my emotions.
Learning how to discern better.
Learning how to stop mistaking attention for intention.
Learning how to stop seeing potential and ignoring patterns.
Learning how to choose myself — even when choosing myself meant losing someone else. And I’m still learning.

I’m not trying to become the woman who doesn’t need love. I’m becoming the woman who can experience love without losing herself in it. The woman who can love deeply and still have boundaries. Who can walk away without believing she has lost her worth. Who puts self-respect at the forefront of her decisions.

And I’m sharing this journey because I know there are women who are exactly where I used to be.

Women who overthink the text. Who question whether they’re asking for too much. Who stay because they’re scared they won’t find someone else. Who see the potential in someone and struggle to accept the reality of who they are. Who want to be loved so badly that they sometimes abandon themselves trying to keep it.

So if you’re learning how to love yourself more, date with more discernment, choose better for yourself, and build a life where love is something you experience — not something you have to abandon yourself to earn…

I remember how many times I held on to relationships I knew I needed to leave, not because I didn’t see how they were treating me, but because I was scared.

What if I don’t find someone better? What if I leave and regret it? What if this is the best I can get?

So I kept trying, hoping that if I loved him a little harder or gave him more time, he would eventually become the man I needed him to be.

But here’s what I had to learn: staying with someone doesn’t guarantee they’ll change, and it doesn’t guarantee they’ll stay.

That thing you’re so afraid of happening if you leave? It could still happen even if you stay. You could spend years trying to make a relationship work and still lose it, only to realise you’ve lost yourself along the way.

So instead of asking, “What if I leave and never find someone better?” ask yourself, “If this person never changes, can I genuinely see myself being happy with them? Is this the future I want for myself?”

I know leaving is scary. Starting over is scary. But you don’t have to figure everything out overnight. It’s baby steps.

You don’t have to know what comes after leaving to acknowledge that what you’re experiencing isn’t what you want for yourself.

Don’t let the fear of losing someone become bigger than the reality of losing yourself.🩷

I feel such a deep sense of understanding and sadness for the women who settle in relationships, they would honestly, deep down, rather not be. It’s that fear of “will I find something better?” “what if this is the best I can get?”

I’ve been here so many times, which is why I can so much relate to it, but if there is one thing, I’ve learned this past years it’s that love is abundant. Love is not scarce. And if we can really stop thinking it is, we would realize that we are even robbing ourselves or the love that is in our future by holding onto a love that we do not want. Love is abundant. There is no scarcity. I promise you. by @emikeaigberua

1. I stopped seeing being in a relationship as important

I’m such a lover girl. But I realised that the importance I attached to being in a relationship was making me desperate to have one; accepting things I would never advise another woman to tolerate.

I was so focused on being chosen that I wasn’t paying enough attention to whether I was choosing well. But once being in a relationship is no longer a requirement for your happiness, you stop negotiating with your wellbeing just to keep one.

2. I stopped entertaining men I already knew I wasn’t interested in.

I used to entertain men I knew I didn’t like. I’d go on dates, have lengthy conversations, give them access to my time and space, and convince myself that maybe something could happen. After all, you never know, right? But you never know is not a good enough reason to keep giving someone access to you.

Now, if I’m not interested, I don’t force it. I don’t need to give someone a chance just because he’s interested in me or seems like a good guy. I now treat my time, energy, and attention as valuable and am no longer willing to invest them in romantic possibilities I don’t genuinely want to explore.

3. I learned to enjoy my own company.

I used to always need someone around. A friend, a man giving me attention, someone pursuing me. I needed that feeling of being wanted to feel validated and secure. Now, I genuinely enjoy my own company. I love spending time alone, discovering new things about myself, learning who I am, and becoming someone I actually enjoy being.

And that has changed how I approach dating because when you’re no longer looking for someone to make you feel worthy, you can finally pay attention to whether they’re actually worth choosing and you become more capable of walking away from what isn’t right for you.

Now, tell me which of these do you think you need to work on personally, 1, 2 or 3?? by @emikeaigberua

1 I chased love too early. At 14, I wrote in my diary that I wanted a boyfriend. Not a dream career. Not a big goal. A boyfriend. I truly believed it was the most important thing in the world. And so I put all my energy into it. Waiting for the text back. Overthinking every conversation. Rearranging my whole personality to be “the girl he’d pick.” If I could go back, I’d tell 16-year-old me: Love isn’t going anywhere. Build yourself first.

2 I dated potential instead of patterns. I was a hopeless romantic, and it cost me. I didn’t fall for the person in front of me. I fell for the version of him I could see in my head: the man he’d be “once he figured things out.” Meanwhile, the real him was showing me everything. Every inconsistent text. Every broken promise. Every time he made me feel like I was asking for too much. And I’d explain it away: he’s just stressed. He’s had a hard past. He’ll grow. But thankfully, I know now that person’s patterns are their truth. Choosing potential is just what you do when you don’t want to accept what’s right in front of you.

3: I abandoned myself to keep the relationship. I thought love meant giving everything. Sacrificing everything. No questions asked, no limits, no matter what. So I did. I shrank myself. I stopped asking for what I needed. I swallowed my feelings to avoid “starting drama.” I tolerated things that made me cry in the shower and smile in public. And every time I felt that quiet voice inside saying this isn’t right, I told myself: this is just what love costs. But real love doesn’t ask you to disappear. It gives you room to grow, to dream, to become the best version of yourself. If you’re losing yourself to keep someone, that’s not love, it’s survival.

Life group hangout, this spaghetti slappedddd shaaa

There was heavy traffic this day, and I was once again reminded how detrimental this “just be rich and you’ll enjoy Nigeria” philosophy is. Because no matter how big the individual gets he can’t completely avoid the effects of a dysfunctional society. The quality of the life you can live has already been capped in ways you will never even know simply because of the environment you find yourself in.

Easily the highlight of September. On to conquering October✨ by @emikeaigberua

Spent years being unhappy, trying to convince myself he would change, I just had to be patient. But he never did.

Forever grateful I eventually chose and loved myself enough to leave, I only wished I did it sooner cause life on the other side was filled with so much peace.

So just in case you’re reading this and you’re currently scared to live a relationship you know you should leave, take this as your sign, life does get astronomically better, I promise🤍 by @emikeaigberua
