✨Orca play tray✨Here’s a fun tray we played with while learning about orcas.We learned that orcas work together to take down their prey and they sometimes make waves to wash seals into the sea. We attempted this with our tray - it was surprisingly hard to get our seals off the ice! My youngest was not a fan of hunting the seals so in the end we pretended all the animals were friends 🤣✨ book is An Anthology of Intriguing Animals by @emilee.mitchel

Here’s our simple Venus flytrap craft that my kids loved so much! We painted one side of a paper plate green, the other pink. Then we cut the little spikes from cardstock and glued them along the edges of the plate. Once everything was dry we had fun trying to catch “flies” or pom poms with our plate.✨top book is The Big Book of Blooms✨bottom book is @thegoodandthebeautiful science for little hearts and hands by @emilee.mitchel

✨magic wand craft✨My kids loved this simple craft so much! We made some magic wands from sticks, yarn, pipe cleaners, and craft feathers. I think they turned out so cute and can be made using whatever craft materials you have on hand ✨We’ll be using these when we do science experiments from this fun wizard magical experiment book ✨ by @emilee.mitchel

We’re continuing our Earth study with learning more about rocks & having so much fun! 🪨The last few weeks we’ve learned about intrusive igneous rocks, specifically granite. ✨we used magnifying glasses to examine granite rocks and identified key features ✨we learned about how magma turns into granite and attempted to make a diagram using play dough to show the process✨we decorated old boxes to store our rock collections✨we folded a paper granite rock so we could use it to help identify other granite rocks we find ✨we used paintbrushes to find granite rocks hidden in a sand tray and learned more about the Torres del Paine mountains ✨we did a lava lamp experiment that helped show how magma slowly rises to the Earth’s surfaceWe have some more super fun rock lessons planned over the next few weeks that I’m excited to share! ✨Baleen whale play tray✨Here’s a fun tray we played with while learning about baleen whales.A few things I added to the tray to tie into our reading:✨Combs & cups to visualize how humpback whales eat since they don’t have teeth. We scooped small toy fish and water into a cup and then used a comb to filter out the water while the fish stayed in the cup. ✨Spray bottles since we learned that humpback whales have to go to the surface to breathe out of their blowholes.✨pictured: @the_stemsory_experience resin, book is An Anthology of Intriguing Animals by @emilee.mitchel

A cute little mushroom craft from a few weeks ago 🍄The mushroom caps are made out of clay & the stems are just sticks put in some more clay to stay upright. We painted the caps and I covered the clay bottom with craft moss. I think they’re turned out so cute! by @emilee.mitchel

Desert Plants 🌵🏜️I just love the little play dough cacti my kids created! Layers of the Earth Jar✨Here’s one more activity we did to help us learn the different layers of the Earth! We filled a jar with different colors of rice and then added labels. I had some mini plastic jars from the Dollar Tree craft section that worked well - so we didn’t need to use much rice. This summer we’re learning all about the planet we live on 🌎 Last week we began with the layers of Earth!We used play dough to create the different layers & then labeled them.
