Armed and dangereux. How was your Saturday night? by @emily.maypole

Scientists now believe the story of a long life has chapters filled with d a n c e! Maypole season may have entered winter hibernation, but plots for spring are already ripening, Reach out to explore how Maypole dancing might bring a colourful twist of magic to your party, hen do, wedding or event for ss27 🌸. by @emily.maypole

Our village maypole had been gathering dust behind a church pew for 15-years, largely unused. After a few rosès at the local fete, watching people tie the ribbons up in knots, I declared that ‘someone’ should carry on the centuries-old tradition and teach the local primary school children how to do it properly - just as I’d been taught to Maypole dance, at my primary school on other side of Somerset many moons ago. I fast realised that hypothetical ‘someone’ could just as readily be me. And so Emily Maypole began. From the parquet hall of Upton Noble Primary School, to Well’s Cathedral Green where all the local schools would Maypole and country dance (if you’ve not promenaded your partner, who even are you?!) and now festivals, weddings, parties and events all over Somerset and beyond. During my twenty years in London, Manchester and LA I never would have put ‘bringing Maypole back’ on my ten year vision board. But fun things happen when you stop making plans. It’s funny how life comes full circle sometimes. And you know what’s particularly great about dancing in circles? Everyone belongs xx
