As you all may know September is National Suicide Prevention Month. With that comes stigma around the topic and how hard it can be to talk about such a powerful thing. Mental health has always hit close to home for me. Seven months ago I was extremely depressed, not eating, temptations of harming myself, and anxiety that was through the roof. I truly thought that was going to be the end of the road for me. I struggled day after day to get out of bed, eat, or even just move my body a little bit (even if that was just in the house). One thing I struggled with the most was telling others what I was feeling. It’s like those unimaginable feelings you can never explain but know exactly how they feel. All I knew was I struggled for weeks and weeks before asking for help.

I eventually found the resources I needed to heal myself. Whether that was countless therapy appointments, medicine, or even just the people I surrounded myself with. As I look back now I like to tell myself that everything happens for a reason, and though it does, something’s just aren’t meant to happen the way they do (if that makes sense). I always wondered if I was enough to my family, friends, boyfriend, etc. but to be truthful all I needed was just a little help (which I was scared to ask for).

I can’t stress enough that if you are struggling to PLEASE ask for help. It does not make you less of a person and it does not make you weak. I hold mental health and September close to my heart and so should you. Not just in September but everyday we should be breaking the stigma.
