I’ve been in so many life giving spaces lately; my body is tired but my spirit is full. One I can’t stop thinking about is @adecarrena’s most recent supper club, “Grandma’s Hands” - paying homage to her grandmother and the ancestors that came before her.

A masterful storyteller, she says it best: “See, I believe grandmothers are the secret ingredient to raising children. They carry a wisdom that doesn’t announce itself. A tenderness that skips a generation. That day reminded me that some knowledge is never written down. It lives in the hands.”

The company we keep, and who we attract says a lot about our character. The kindness, joy and laughter in that room was evidence of Adé’s own dedication and thoughtfulness. So honored to share space with them ❤️ taken in Raleigh, North Carolina by @emilybennettcreative

The key to enjoying creative work for me, is enjoying the people I get to collaborate with.

I’ve been working with @jscottyyy for years now and it’s so fun to see him ideate on set, he pushes me to think more creatively and makes me a better photographer. @chriswheaton11 is also a creative genius. I’ve been following his work since I was in college. It was a dream to get him on the other side of the lens and watch him and @jscottyyy play off of each other.

@thejhampden was behind the lens for video on this one and y’all are not ready for what he cooked up 😮‍💨 taken in Raleigh, North Carolina by @emilybennettcreative

I’ve been running my own business now for 4 years and am still very much figuring this thing out. I feel so grateful to make a living doing something I love AND some days are hard. Here are some recent flops.

Just this week, I drove down to Charleston for a shoot, only to have it canceled due to weather the morning of.

I took a business retreat for myself a couple of weeks ago and expected to have some big revelation. Instead, it felt like just another Tuesday and Dolly Parton died while I was there, so I couldn’t focus on anything else.

I am behind on invoices, emails, and editing.

I want a family one day and worry that my business takes up so much space in my life that there is not room for anything else.

Every artist is doing more work that you do not see on their Instagram. Don’t let your algorithm fool you.

You’re doing great 🫶🏼

Booked myself a stay @sanderlingresort to get out of Raleigh for a bit to dream and plan for my business. Right when I got there, I was greeted on the beach by this double rainbow 🥹 Don’t forget to take time for yourself.
