She’s back! Unpacked, patched and suspended from the ceiling!

Four projects are currently on view in the @risdarch BEB as part of the exhibition R-Value Accessories. The show will be up for one more week ❤️

R-Value Accessories:
A Case for Ultra-Thin Adjustments

Curators: Emily Ezquerro and Sam Sheffer
Work by: Emily Ezquerro @emilyezquerro , Sam Sheffer @sam.h.sheffer , Charles Kim @tnalscharleskim , Emma Sheffer @emmasheffer , Jeronimo Ezquerro @jeroezquerro , Stephanie Rae Lloyd @s.rae.lloyd

R-Value Accessories are devices for architecture. The work in this exhibition showcases additive systems that recalibrate existing buildings rather than replace them. It is a cumulative output of a multi-year research project that accepts what is already there and adds on.

Bringing together a series of speculative and material projects, the exhibition explores how layering, insulation, and garment logics can transform existing housing into responsive, climate-resilient systems. Insulation is no longer concealed within thick walls but becomes visible, adjustable, and precisely an accessory that can be added, removed, or tailored over time.

The four projects presented—A Non-Optimized Methodology for Doing Less, House Jackets, Paper-Thin Paper Paper, and Space.Suits.US—form an exhibition of distinct yet interconnected approaches to the same question: how might architecture evolve through R-Value Accessories? Each project takes on this challenge through a different lens, exploring subtraction, layering, wrapping, and re-skinning as architectural strategies, and over time, these investigations inform one another.

Together, they approach buildings as systems open to continual adjustment rather than fixed, finished forms, where accessories are not supplemental but fundamental. Whether by reducing conditioned volume, incorporating garment-like layers into the building envelope, reconceiving the wall as a field of ultra-thin membranes, or translating the logic of spacesuits into architectural assemblies, each project redirects attention from building anew to reworking what already exists. taken in RISD Architecture by @emilyezquerro

🕰️ Hill of Dreams 🕰️

📖 19th Century REVIVAL by @mandylionpress
🔖 Papercuts, iIllustration and book design by me.

In Hill of Dreams, Arthur Machen exposes the darker side of the Decadent era in this occult künstlerroman. Blending the psychological and the supernatural, Machen entombs his main character, Lucian Taylor, in his own mind, cutting him off from the living world of sensation. Lucian journeys “all the long way from the known to the unknown,” travelling through Welsh hills, Roman ruins, opium dreams, and the grey streets of London.

Arthur Machen (1863–1947) was born Caerleon, Wales. His most well-known works include The Great God Pan and Ornaments of Jade. He has influenced writers as diverse as H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, Jorge Luis Borges and Sylvia Townsend Warner. by @emilyezquerro

SpaceSuits.US was made to be touched!

We loved seeing people engaging with the project during the opening week, and cherished the many screenshots and snapshots that were sent our way from friends abroad.

In an exhibition full of robots, AI generated content and “hard sciences”, it was so rewarding to see the public engage with our soft and bodily work.

An Index of Accessory Objects ——

*The following index, in breath and scope, is both a test of the limits of this lens of interdependence, and a prompt to the reader to consider other object in terms of their potential partners. The spreadsheet is a digital descendent of the book-keeping ledger, used to track expenditures and payments over time—who owes who. It is a format-as-tool, dedicated to efficiency, quantification and tracking delta change.

A LITTLE COOLER: A Local Case for Steel Reuse

At Hoyt Field, we set out to meet a short-term, local need for shade—while also taking on a larger challenge: addressing one of the forces driving overall warming.

How? A method of direct reuse of decommissioned or surplus structural steel members.

The construction industry—especially when it comes to steel’s extraction, fabrication, and recycling—operates on a continental, if not global, scale. Steel is a remarkable building material in its capacities to function both in compression and tension, and the coordination of the industry at this scale enables the mass recycling of the material. To create steel, though, is incredibly energy intensive. Recycling steel further uses heat to reform and reshape it. Embracing the strength and durability of steel, we propose a design strategy that seeks to reuse steel without the need to expend extra energy to reform it.

Made possible with the support of the Cambridge Arts Council: Shades of Social Justice.
