“Day One” by Bon Iver ITS FINALLY OUTTT!!! My first major artist music video and couldn’t be happier to have done it with my best friend @dylankinzler. This was a surreal moment. Dylan and I from @mashupdance Open Mic in celebration of Women’s Equality Day. We created this seven minute piece in about two hours which was really insane. It was one of the most magical creation processes i’ve ever had. Where the story just flowed out of me like air and was beautifully interpreted into movement like it was the only answer. I had this song on repeat the whole week, and felt like it might not be the right fit, until we just let it play, and discovered it was the soundtrack the whole time. The words and the movements made so much sense it was scary. Dylan and I have this unspoken understanding that I have never had with a creative partner before. Dancing with him just makes sense. The story relates to how I was feeling at this time, unseen, unheard, and unappreciated as a woman in a sea of other voices and people who didn’t relate to me. I felt like showcasing this and channeling these experiences for this specific event was necessary. I find that it is also a universal experience for women in relationships, feeling like the caregiver, but not receiving much care back.
