Genevieve + Lance’s *actually perfect* day with @kbeventssb at Montecito Club. My last big wedding of the season, and so many giggles shared with @foxjumpcinematics… I might’ve had too much fun with this one (and that is just fine by me!). ADORE YOU, G+L!! by @emilyloeppke

Savannah + Sam at @simpsonhouseinn, a joyful and colorful September celebration with @kbeventssb + @bestdayeverfloraldesign! by @emilyloeppke

I don’t have quite the right words for this one. So I’ll just say, enjoy the preview: Hannah + Justin, just married in Santa Barbara!

Not only is it an honor to be asked by a fellow wedding professional to capture their thoughtfully-planned, beautifully-executed dream day, but to be asked by THESE TWO wonderful humans?! AND a dream team of fellow vendors, of course!

To J-Rod and the newly-minted H-Rod, obsessed doesn’t even begin to cover it. Adore you both; drink lots of Aperol spritzes and enjoy that honeymoon in Italy! 🇮🇹

Introducing BENNY! We adopted him from @syvhumanedawg a couple short weeks ago and he is such a gift. We’re so smitten with him and his floofy tail, joy for walkies, little black polka dots, and furry grinch feets… this pup is already SO spoiled, and we’re enjoying every minute of it.

I’ll never not be grieving Alfie and Mickey. The first few days with Benny had lots of big feelings. But he is such a sweetheart, a gentle soul, and even cuter in real life than in photos. He’s healing us. ❤️‍🩹

Never did I ever think I’d be adopting an Aussie mix, considering the breed’s high-energy reputation. 😆 But this sweet angel is chill as can be: he loves to nap, sprawled across the couch without shame.

Welcome home, Benny. We already love you SO MUCH. 🤍 by @emilyloeppke

Hannah and Justin. This was a day overflowing with excitement, giddy anticipation, and the most palpable love for the two wonderful humans making it official in front of their 50 closest people. It was an honor to witness and celebrate this beautiful couple at @casacalmasb with @kbeventssb and an all-star vendor team. 🤍 And MAN, the dance floor was LIT. 🪩 by @emilyloeppke

The most refreshing libations for a warm summer wedding day: coconut margaritas, lavender lemon drops, and a peach bourbon take on the "John Daly" (renamed after the groom as "Justin Daly," of course!). by @emilyloeppke

Celebrating Sophie + Andrew’s first year of marriage (albeit slightly belated) with their feature in @californiaweddingday magazine! 🤍 by @emilyloeppke

Flashing back to H+J’s special day I love so much! @emilyloeppke nailed capturing every moment so beautifully especially cake cutting 😍

I’ve worked along side the couple for a few years so flowering for these two was extra special. It definitely hit different seeing the details come together and a little added pressure bc my bride is a designer too. 😬

C+R and their joyful spring wedding day in Montecito. We screamed at her cape, we giggled nonstop, we grinned til our faces hurt as we captured the party on the dance floor. This was a good one. So very grateful for this work and the incredible humans we get to meet along the way. 🤍 by @emilyloeppke

UNPOPULAR OPINION: I send your wedding gallery preview within a week of your wedding, not the very next day. Hear me out.

GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME. Thoughtfully selecting and hand-editing your preview images (and your full gallery) means taking a few extra hours to get it right. My most recent delivered preview took me 5 hours just to edit, and that was AFTER culling the wedding day. I take more time than other photographers, but I’m also a bit of a meticulous perfectionist 🫣

I’LL DO A BETTER JOB WITH A FEW DAYS TO GET IT RIGHT. When I look at your photos immediately after taking them (and without adequate time for my brain to rest and reset), I’m less decisive, I fuss more over the editing, and frankly, I’m less happy with myself.

Perhaps this one is a little selfish, and I’m okay with that. I am much better at editing when I have a clear head and lots of sleep.

GIVE YOURSELF A MINUTE TO DECOMPRESS AND ESTABLISH AUTHENTIC MEMORIES OF THE DAY. “Photo-based memory” is a phenomenon where people recall the static frame of a photograph of an event rather than a genuine, first-person memory.

Instead of worrying about when you’ll see the photos, reflect on your own recollections of special moments throughout the day. Write them down, talk about moments with your spouse.

Take a moment for your own memories instead of just reliving the photos of memories.

I’M SO SLEEPY… another selfish one. But seriously, I’m totally spent after a wedding day, and I need the mental, emotional, and physical rest to feel like a real human again. Then, I can take my time editing your preview with intention and care.

THESE PHOTOS ARE MEANT TO LAST FOR GENERATIONS. Why would I want to rush through the first chance to fine-tune your future family heirlooms?

Psst... I don’t.

THE BOTTOM LINE: Humans (photographers) need to rest, and these photos represent an incredibly special occasion. Establish your own authentic memories, decompress from the day with your new spouse, and know that your photographer loves you very much and can’t wait to share these photos with you. It’s worth the wait. by @emilyloeppke
