ERASE / REWIND, interrogates the ontological instability of the object, mapping the processes through which presence is synthesized via repetition and symbolic projection. What appears present and stable is in fact produced within cultural and visual systems that usually remain unseen. Once these systems are disrupted, their underlying instabilities and the absences they conceal, come into view. Working at the convergence of (cinematic) simulation and consumer display, the show examines how film, architecture, and exhibition formats organize perception directing attention, constructing presence, and simultaneously obscuring what is missing.

Installation views of the duo exhibition BURN-IN by @jascha.froh and @jonathan.joosten, curated by @emilypretzsch on the occasion of @berlinartweek 2026. On view through October 10.

Between screen surfaces, photographic fragments, and narrative images, the duo exhibition BURN-IN by Jascha Froh and Jonathan Joosten unfolds around a state of visual afterimage. The exhibition takes as its point of departure the phenomenon of “burn-in”: the ghostly imprint of static images on digital displays, remaining visible long after their original content has disappeared. What initially appears as a technical defect becomes a conceptual figure for memory, repetition, and the persistence of images in a present defined by their constant circulation. Within a visual culture shaped by frictionless distribution and endless scrolling, Froh and Joosten are interested in moments when this flow begins to falter. Their works hold onto images, slow their circulation, or allow them to reappear in altered forms. The technical phenomenon of burn-in thus becomes a way of asking what remains of an image once its original context, function, or immediate presence has disappeared.

4 months in nyc and i experienced my first blizzard, ate the best hot dog of my life, went to coney island twice and never took a ride, curated a solo show, met a friend in target, line danced in the guggenheim, fell in love in a jazz bar, called 911, bought three leather jackets and broke them all, had about 60 bagels and took out a fire in my house taken in New York City by @emilypretzsch
