Hello. What is critical to your business? Strategic Counsel + Content. Creator of the Values Process.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve passed a huge milestone with the bespoke VALUES process I created to support my clients with more than 150 confidential sessions and reports completed. What started as an experiment has become a process where I have seen wonderful humans including architects, curators, entrepreneurs, octogenarians, midwives, lawyers, C-suite, government, psychologists, even financiers, importers, conductors, NFP workers, shift workers, funeral directors, stay-at-home mums and dads, hospo workers and company directors connect with their innate wisdom and true values. For some the process has been a beautiful validation of where they are and what they want, for others the session was the nudge/kick they needed to reset. Want to find out more about a process that creates space for you to connect to your values away from family, friends, peers and other stakeholder pressures, get in touch. And a huge thank you to the early ‘guinea pigs’ who gave me their time, assessed the safety of the process and gave me encouragement to develop the VALUES process. As Mark Manson says: “Values are the fundamental component of our psychological make-up and our identity. We are defined by what we choose to find important in our lives. We are defined by our prioritisations.”

Selfie in unrenovated paradise, had to add to my collection of special places. The beauty of an old towel that still dries magnificently, long racks with space for everything, paint colours not featured on this year’s pantone list, a bathroom without 40kg of products going off as new shipments arrive, simple taps and life beyond the fantasy… better things to grow, do, read, make, look after/care for, invest in and think about. No reed diffusers, $200 candle or Sol de janeiro pong. A month of recovery, partnerships, work, play, foraging, blossoms, new tricks, love doves, endings, beginnings and the promises of spring. Sad to say goodbye to the winters in Wategos. Priced out but damn it was good while it lasted.🪬🪬 by @emilyrossbespoke

Yesterday was the anniversary of my mum’s death from #pancreaticcancer in 2012. By coincidence it was also my one day this month on the gram. Instead of the usual algorithmic assault on ageing women — hooded eyes, menopausal weight and overconsumption — my feed was suddenly a waterfall of comedy gold.
I got drunk on it. Tears rolling down my face, LMAO. Dancing old ladies, ridiculous jokes, the original Ozempic (coffee and a ciggie). I passed them on to love doves and got Tony laughing too. Later I watched an #ALJazeera report on @sbsnews_au about a carers program in Bogotá, where women consumed by unpaid caring get to swim, dance, exercise and simply be human again. It rocked my world. Oddly, I hadn’t spent much of the day thinking about Mum. This morning it hit me. Humour was Mum’s love language and remains glue in our family. It was an essential life force, particularly when life was shitty.
Jung called certain meaningful coincidences synchronicities: outer events that correspond uncannily with an inner reality, without needing a causal explanation. I’m not saying Mum hacked my Instagram algorithm from the afterlife. But what a coincidence.
And there was something else deeply Jungian about it. Jung believed the psyche compensates when consciousness becomes too one-sided. On a day that might have belonged to death and solemn remembrance, in bounded the Trickster: irreverence, absurdity, dancing and uncontrollable laughter. Not disrespect for death.
Life refusing to be flattened by it.
Then Bogotá brought its opposite: the exhausting reality of care, but also the insistence that the carer remains fully human. Illness, ageing, dependency and death can be awful without cancelling love, humour, tenderness or joy. Jung was fascinated by our capacity to hold these opposites rather than resolve them. And perhaps what moved me most was realising I hadn’t spent the anniversary remembering Mum’s humour.
I was doing it. Maybe that’s one way the dead remain with us — not only as memories, but as ways of being that have become part of us. And that glorious older woman dancing her heart out? On insta telling ageing women they are 🦮💩dancing her heart out! by @emilyrossbespoke

Eight months off the gram - Still little things i miss about insta but jeez they go hard selling gel nails, skin creams and influencer crapola. While i love seeing my friends’ best moments, i enjoy not thinking i know what people have been up to - knowing that their feed is unlikely to tell the full story! i figure We can catch up properly instead. See you off socials honeys 💗💗💗💗 by @emilyrossbespoke

my last little reel for insta day is a tiny flash of the ODYSSEY we’ve been on. From 5C Ravenna miracles, Giotto, Duhrer, Fujiko Nakaya, new and old memorials, archaeological relics and the contemporaries like breast beating Marina A, slightly cancelled and clever Richard Prince to the Highs and lows of Venice Bienbale. Having the time to properly experience the TRUE GENIUS Arthur Jafa retrospective (with Richard Prince) and be the person with the time to sit and watch everything was possibly the best artgasm ever. To see these geniuses made the Arsenale and Giardini underwhelming (i did like the new garden plantings at the Giardini). Astonishing Michael Armitage, sublime Amoako Baofo, exquisite Santa Kanyarovsky were other extraordinary shows making the hype of the two big Biennale venues hard to live up to. It’s so hard to be great🧿🧿🧿🧿 if it was easy we all would be. taken in Hydra, Greece by @emilyrossbespoke

in the words of the great Alan Partridge, How arrrrrre you? Another month of adventure before dementia - Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen were simply astonishing - the hum of electric cars and Shanghai birdsong, the ancient civilization of gong fu tea, porcelain, emperors and eunuchs, the reinvention and modernization after Mao, the cities of the future, drone drink delivery, driverless cars, preserved hutongs, rock gardens, rhododendrons, the emperors peonies, exquisite dumplings to dream about, the unesco world heritage wonders and a sense of history and timelines that fuels my focus on gaining new perspectives, learning AliPay and all sorts of new fangled skills. Cannot wait to go back! Lots of projects at home (work and Hq fun) making time, hibiscus tea (and crayfish rolls) for love doves), plotting new adventures, watching the Royal Commission (go @danivalent ) reading Yesteryear (wow), hosting tea and readings at @teamooau getting my jung on, learning my own boundaries and missing my yoga practice (facets playing up) and watching Rose head off into her new life in Asia. (guess whose going to be popping in a lot!) Life off the gram continues to be wonderful - it’s almost a meditative state not processing those first 100 visuals in your feed in the morning. i still read digital stuff but not 💩💩 algorithms. I miss my friends adventures but the perfect amount of group chats on text (ha ha not even whatsapp) are keeping the lols coming and i admit to sneaking on to SNL, DJLovers and Rupaul for sustenance. i’ve also loved moving conversation from DMs to text, feels like a stronger connection, more real. I’m very flattered that friends have asked me to send travel:food pix so get ready for Europe 2026! Tony and i will die with empty coffers but full hearts and minds. Still quite a few unesco sites to go 🤩🤩🫢🫢 by @emilyrossbespoke

it’s that time of the month - a reel on the 14th is my insta diet! i don’t think my relationship with Insta was toxic (it’s been an amicable breakup), but I don’t miss you: Doom Scroll, crappy algorithm, comparison-is-the-thief-of-joy engine! i admit i have started sharing more random photos with friends, so maybe that’s more annoying than sharing on Insta? (tell me straight, boos!)

march april has been a complex quilt of milestones (HBD @ortolan and @peter_sarris), cool projects, farewells, planning, Kondo-ing, a bit of Kylie 🌈, last-minute adventures, geriatric pedicures, garage yoga, bathing in autumn light, some @bistro_livi_ love, and a 💩 bout with RSV (gosh i lost that one) - the health thing just decides everything really.

i miss my insta spirit animals, their ideas, humour and perspective, but four months recalibration feels damn good. So much so, I feel a Q&A coming on…

Q. So Emily, you were a big oversharer on the gram, literally thousands of posts.
A. Yes but no one cares ❤️

Q. Wow you must have a lot of extra time and feel rather up yourself about going cold turkey?
A. No, I waste more time debating with ChatGPT about why I should shift my “thinking partner” to Claude; reading more about SHAZBAGS (thanks @rampart.news); following news feeds (that’s another black hole, only slightly less harmful to brain cells), and I love watching live court cases, so the time has gone POOF!

Q. Do you ever sneak a peek at people’s stories even when you are meant to be Instasober?
A. But of course, although i quickly jump off - feels invasive and nausea-inducing - how weird is that?

Q. Do you acknowledge there were accounts you should not have looked at so much?
A. Ah well, that is where the gift is. There’s something about Insta that finds your weak spots and amplifies them, getting into your head, leading you to hopeless places and giving you an existential ick. That’s what I don’t miss.

Q. You sound a bit sanctimonious Emily?
A. Nope, just trying something different, changing it up, decluttering.
Q. Finally, what have you actually gained, not lost?
A. Perspective. My number one word for 2026. by @emilyrossbespoke
