How appropriate for Psalm 9:1 to be the scripture of the day. I am sitting here tears streaming down my face, with a grateful heart. A week ago today I had an emergency appendectomy and my appendix perforated. What was supposed to be outpatient surgery landed me in the hospital for 7 days. During that time I felt pain, fatigue, frustration, fear and even moments of hopelessness (which thankfully didn’t last long). I knew I had an army of prayer warriors covering me and I felt the power of those prayers. I was constantly encouraged by my family, friends, co-workers, and loved ones. I had advocates asking the questions I didn’t have the strength to ask and people who showed up at my bedside, sent me flowers, cozy socks, love, and encouraging words to support me. My heart is overwhelmed and I am so thankful. I am thankful to the doctors and nurses who cared for me, and took my complaints seriously. Nurses really are angels on earth. The care, compassion and concern they gave to me was amazing (including letting me know they were praying for me). I am thankful for my husband, children, parents, parents-in-love, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, best friends, friends, co-workers and church family who looked out for me and checked on my family. I am thankful for anyone who prayed for me because you know someone who loves me. I am thankful that God saw fit for me to live and not die! I am thankful for life and on this Thanksgiving Day may it be a reminder to you, that we are all blessed to be in the land of the living. What matters most is how we show up for the people we love and how we treat one another. Because at the end of the day, worldly possessions and material things will not matter — what will matter is how we love one other and make people feel. I feel loved, grateful and blessed. That moment when you get to meet Magic Johnson and tell him your Godfather was his mentor and advisor at MSU. I know my Uncle Larry was smiling down from heaven today. When I told Magic about our mutual connection his face lit up and he gave me a great big hug. Today has to be one of my favorite days yet at Wayne State University 💚💛. Magic is such a humble, kind, authentic person. His company SodexoMagic now provides Dining and Catering services to our WSU community. Today was a great day!

Promoting the Publics 2025 💚💛

This conference for High School Counselors is one of my favorite events of the year. The 15 Public Universities in Michigan host High School Counselors from around the state and share information and resources about our institutions and the college application and enrollment process.

I have such an amazing team. I wasn’t feeling well today and they helped me put my best foot forward to represent Wayne State University. #WarriorStrong by @emjack831

Today is Aubrey’s first day of her Senior year of college. She is a Marketing major with a minor in Media Arts. Feels like yesterday we were moving her in to the residence hall at Wayne State. She loves living and learning in Detroit. Praying this is your best year yet Baby Girl 🙌🏾💚💛!

30 years of love and marriage ❤️. We’ve been through storms, celebrated success, raised a family, lifted each other up when we needed to and been each other’s greatest advocate and best friend.
