Emily’s Pocket Neighborhoods zine digs into the surprising history of waste in Seattle, from early dumping grounds and recycling experiments to the North Transfer Station and the mile-long trash train that carries garbage out of the city six days a week.

Part local history, part invitation to explore, Emily’s zine encourages you to visit the North Transfer Station’s community viewing room and see Seattle’s waste stream in action.

Pick up a limited copy at Pioneer Square Art Walk all summer long, every First Thursday through September at King Street Station.

My pocket neighborhood zine for @common_area about the north transfer station is finally here! I love it so much 😍 Find it at King Street Station during Pioneer Square art walks this summer (for free! With lots of other amazing zines) It was a blast learning even more about one of my favorite neighborhood landmarks and Fremont history! Swipe through for research highlights, including an afternoon watching the tipping floor, trying out all of the workout sculptures, and getting my hands on a copy of Myra Phelps’s stellar history of the Seattle Engineering Dept. by @emkturn
