POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Most women don’t fall into either extreme of “girlboss” or “tradwife.” They value meaningful work, but they also want to cultivate marriage, motherhood, and family. There is a better way.

I wrote Lead Like Jael to invite women into the pages of the Bible to discover what God’s Word—not man—says about virtuous, wise, and life-giving femininity. Link in the bio!

What can men do to improve their chances of a pregnancy? A lot.

A man’s sperm resets about every three months. With targeted changes to lifestyle, diet, and exercise, there’s a lot he can do over the next three months to improve his fertility.

It matters because infertility is rarely one person’s problem. When a couple is struggling, about a third of the time it’s male factor, a third female factor, and a third a combination of both. Add with a sperm count that’s been steadily declining for decades globally, men can’t be an afterthought.

Women are being dismissed. 💔

In this week’s episode of Rethinking Fertility, Emma goes through real stories from women who were told their tests were “normal,” that it would “happen when it happens,” or that IVF was the next step, without anyone looking for the cause.

She also explains why infertility isn’t a disease with a single solution. It’s often the symptom of underlying reproductive health conditions. And it is not all the woman’s fault: about half of infertile couples involve a male factor.

“Everything looks normal.” Then why aren’t you pregnant?

If you’ve been told that after basic bloodwork, an ultrasound, and a semen analysis, and you’re still not pregnant: you are not imagining things. And you are not alone.

Here’s what rarely gets said: those tests are the bare minimum of what can and should be done. In the U.S., up to 30% of IVF cycles are due to “unexplained infertility.” Instead of figuring out why, the answer is often: here’s IVF, hope it works.

One woman on Reddit spent 13 months being told everything looked normal. A second opinion found her uterine lining was too thin.

What is infertility, actually?

Is it a disease with a single solution? Or is it the symptom of something underneath?

That distinction changes everything. If infertility is one disease, IVF becomes the answer to every case. If it’s a symptom, that one-size-fits-all pipeline may be holding couples back from real diagnosis and real healing.

In our new episode, Emma does a deep dive on Reddit to see what couples are really going through in their infertility journey and the alternative care available through restorative reproductive medical solutions outside of IVF.

Did you know your child's DNA can remain in your body for decades after pregnancy?

It's called fetal microchimerism.

During pregnancy, mothers and babies exchange cells through the placenta, leaving small pieces of one another behind. The most fascinating part? Researchers have found these cells may help repair damaged tissue throughout a mother's body.

Pregnancy doesn't just change a mother's life. It changes her biologically.

💬 Comment DNA for the full episode as Emma explores the remarkable and lasting biological connection between mothers and their children.

What’s the “reduction of fetus” clause? It's a provision that allows intended parents to request the termination of one or more unborn children during a surrogate pregnancy.

Contracts exist to protect the parties involved. But here's the catch:

What happens when the interests of the child and the surrogate mother collide with the wishes of the paying client?

💬 Comment CONTRACT for the full episode, as Emma examines real stories that reveal the difficult reality behind these agreements.

For most Christians I know, the question of a vasectomy is a matter of “when,” not “if.”

In our latest guest essay, University of Pittsburgh professor Grant Martsolf shares a deeply personal reflection on vasectomy, regret, reversal, faith, and what it means to remain open to life.

It’s honest, thought-provoking, and one of the most memorable essays we've published.

The most dangerous pregnancies aren't always the ones people expect. Did you know surrogate pregnancies face significantly higher complication rates than natural pregnancies?
That can include:
🔘Preterm labor & birth
🔘Low birth weight
🔘Gestational diabetes
🔘Preeclampsia (a serious blood-pressure complication)
🔘Sepsis (severe infection and inflammation)

In the surrogacy world, the focus is on the intended parents, not so much on the women taking on these known medical risks.

💬 Comment RISK for the full episode, as Emma breaks down the complications surrogate mothers face and why they're rarely discussed.

You can’t *work* with children without being heavily background-checked. So why can you *buy* a child without one?

The fertility industry requires NO:

❌background checks
❌home safety inspections
❌in-depth interviews

Yet children are still being placed into these arrangements. Here's the question no one wants to ask: Why do we have stricter protections for employment than parenthood?

💬 Comment CHECK for the full episode, as Emma discusses the risks children face when they’re commoditized.

A child with six “parents”—that is, those responsible for his or her existence? It’s possible in the world of IVF. In this conception model, a child could potentially have:

🔘1-2 intended parent(s)
🔘1 egg donor
🔘1 sperm donor
🔘1 surrogate mother
🔘1 clinic or agency creating the embryo

At some point, a simple question becomes surprisingly difficult: Who is my mother?

💬 Comment MOTHER for the full episode, as Emma explores how reproductive technologies are reshaping some of our oldest understandings of family and parenthood.

Surrogacy is often presented as a compassionate solution to infertility. But technology doesn't just change what we do. It changes how we think.

What happens when children become the subject of contracts? When motherhood can be divided, transferred, and assigned through legal agreements?

The question isn't whether surrogacy can work but what it requires us to believe about children, mothers, and human dignity in order to work.

💬 Comment NEUTRAL for Emma's latest Substack as she explores the deeper assumptions behind the surrogacy industry.
