These wise words from Nelson Mandela are written on the walls of the Nobel Peace Center. I’ve brought them home with me.

Dialogue requires us to truly listen, not to respond but to understand. It challenges us to face fear of the other, to remain open to change within ourselves, and to co-create something new. Dialogue is how we change the world. And it seems to me that facilitating dialogue is the heart of the @nobelpeacecenter ‘s mission.

For this among so many reasons, it was my great honor to speak at the Nobel Peace Conference.

Against a world poisoned by nuclear weapons, our best weapon, too, is dialogue. Nuclear weapons generate mistrust, irrationality, inhumanity. Their very existence is incompatible with the pursuit of peace and dignity for all. For the sake of the dignity of life on earth, it’s vital that we develop a collective resolve that nuclear weapons can never be justified, and that begins with dialogue.

I recently had the absolute joy of participating in this discussion on the importance of nuclear disarmament education at HGSE ❤️

For me, education will always be the surest path to peace. It’s our best weapon against dehumanization, apathy, disdain, hopelessness, superiority, and all forms of violence.

Each of us has inherent human dignity - disarmament education, global citizenship education, and human rights education are all built upon this foundational assumption. That’s why, if you ask me, peace always begins with education.

What an immense privilege it was to share a space for dialogue with these extraordinary colleagues of mine. A big thank you to @harvardeducation and @ikedacenter for facilitating this.
