Yesterday, my mother took her last breath and joined the Lord in heaven.

My mother loved as hard as she could. I do believe she tried as hard as anyone could try. My mother loved deeply. She loved her kids and were always proud of us. She loved animals, and never knew a stray. She loved chocolate and baking. She loved helping a stranger. She loved her neighbors. She loved Jesus as much as she could. She loved nature and all that came with it. She loved dragonflies and poetry. She loved football and the Vols. She loved sci-fi movies and rom coms. She loved the beach and loved the mountains. She loved shopping and getting pedicures.

She loved deeply. She loved as much as she could.

Although she passed away yesterday, my mom lost her life many years ago to addiction. A disease and reality that is so painful to experience, one that can taint the beauty of someone’s life in such a devastating way. While death and grief are so complex, I know my mother would want me to love deeply, try hard and try harder the next time.

Mom, I’ve never for a second doubted how much you loved me. And I know how much the Lord loves you. You’re free now, and that’s all I’ve ever wanted you to be.
