🥈 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.. Still speechless 🥹. Representing the Netherlands in such a big international race, and then making it onto the podium, is a dream come true ✨

And if it wasn’t for my coach @gunterwerner, I wouldn’t even have tried. Thank you for all your support and somehow always getting me in shape despite the circumstances. And of course a big thanks as well to @officinemattio & @polymerws for making bikes so fast 💨

A little bit from June onboard the yacht @mygenechaser 🧬

Besides lab work and riding my bike, I got to meet up with friends in NYC & Boston, enjoyed amazing views, and even reeled in a shark 🎣

🥇 UCI Gran Fondo Alabama 🌈

First time racing in the beautiful hills of Alabama and what an adventure it was. A 45-minute thunderstorm delay kicked the day off, but once the rain eased, my age group started in the first wave. The first 10 miles of rolling hills kept the group mostly intact, but the second climb really started breaking things up. I lost contact with the front group halfway up, together with another girl in my category, but managed as only woman to catch the front group again on the downhill with the help of two guys.

However, later in the race the group’s attacks were too much to follow, I ended up with just a few guys that stayed back as well, and eventually settled in to ride the rest of the race with one kind man. I could match his pace on the climbs, but had to dig deep to stay with him on the descents.

The mid-race U-turn gave a rare glimpse of how the front of the race had shattered in singles and doubles everywhere. It also gave me a look at where the other women were behind me, which was more nerve wrecking than relieving and kept me pushing all the way to the end. Resulting in the female overall win and finishing 12th in the men’s field.

I’m proud I nailed my @never.second nutrition this time, no cramps! Especially considering I’d been sick earlier in the week. The same happened to me before Levi’s Gran Fondo, and I know it probably has something to do with my form. I got my period the day after both races, not great and also what are the odds ?! 🫠 Clearly I’ve got more to learn about training, recovery, and how my body responds to stress in different phases. But I’m proud how I managed to get through this race, with a NP of 250W for 4:52 hrs, that must be my new all-time 290 minutes record 😋.

Big shout out to my coach @gunterwerner who came out to do this race as well and was a big support during this weekend 🙌.

Now there’s 21 weeks to train until we line up at Worlds in Australia, representing the Netherlands 🇳🇱

Two time GFNY Miami Champion🥇🥇. Starting the race with #1 pinned on was pretty special, and to finish the race with a win made it even more meaningful 🥹.

I’m grateful for all people who were part of this. To my family and friends, thank you for always cheering me on and believing in me. And to everyone who took a moment to send a message, I truly appreciate every one of you! 💛

A huge thank you to my coach @gunterwerner . Your support goes far beyond just writing training plans. You’re always checking in, pushing me to show up and do the work, and constantly adjusting things based on how I’m feeling. That kind of attention and involvement makes all the difference. I’m really lucky to have a coach who cares this much. Thank you for being all in, it doesn’t go unnoticed!

I’m also incredibly thankful for the support of @officinemattio and @polymerws , who make the fastest, most beautiful bikes and components out there that got me flying today 🚀. And shoutout to @neversecond for keeping me fueled during this race⛽️.

Thank you @gfny_world @gfny_usa for organizing another great edition of GFNY Miami! Congrats to @valeriacardozo and @zasihuber 🏆. And wishing a speedy recovery to @flor.espiritusanto and all others who were involved in a crash ❤️‍🩹.

I think it’s safe to say I’ve gotten much better at riding my bike the last few years. Shoutout to @ziel.miami @officinemattio @polymerws @pasnormalstudios @nimbl.cc @albaoptics for making me faster 🔥, but the real magic happens with the amazing community I get to ride with every day. Your support and energy push me to be consistent and keep improving myself 🫶. Thank you for inspiring me to be better every single ride!

I’ve always told myself I’d never pursue a PhD after seeing the hard work and dedication my mom put into hers, yet here I am.. Proud to follow in her footsteps. This journey has taught me many things, but mostly resilience, patience and perseverance. I’m excited to see what 2025 has in store 🙌

It’s Dr. Drabbe from now on 😏. After 4 years I successfully defended my final PhD dissertation @univmiami on ‘Engineering Fluidic Platforms for Optimizing Retinal Organoids and Eye Transplants’ 🎓🙌
