Our cosleeping story 🤍

What started as unintentional survival in those newborn days slowly turned into intentional cosleeping once we got our floor bed.

I spent so much of early motherhood feeling torn between my instincts and what the internet (and medical professionals) told me was “right.”

Exhausted, anxious, trying to make my baby sleep independently when all he wanted was closeness.

My hope in sharing this is that it reaches another first time mom who feels alone in that struggle. The mom googling at 3am. The mom terrified she’s doing everything wrong. The mom whose baby only settles beside her.

Also, this feels very therapeutic to be able to share this experience.

it’s so wild to me that there’s an entire industry profiting from convincing moms that responding to their babies, holding them close, and sleeping beside them is somehow a “bad habit.”

when did nurturing become something we needed to fix?

for families who choose to cosleep safely, research has found benefits like supporting breastfeeding, helping babies regulate their breathing and body temperature, reducing stress for some families, and making nighttime responsiveness easier. for many parents, it’s simply one way of staying connected through the night.

if staying close to my son is a “bad habit,” it’s one i’ll happily keep. 🫶🏼

idk who needs to hear this but a child who is very attached to their mother is not a sign of a problem, it’s a sign of a well established bond 🤍

the world is in such a rush to make children independent. but secure attachment isn’t something to fix, it’s something to protect.

i think one of the hardest parts of becoming a mother is realizing how quickly we’re taught to doubt our instincts.

i know how fortunate i am to spend my days raising my son.

i know that’s not possible for every family, and i never want to take this season for granted.

if life ever put me in a different position, i would do everything in my power to find a way to keep him with me.

because to me, these slow mornings, contact naps, and ordinary afternoons are the moments i’ll miss most one day.
