Funny how a DNF can still feel like one of your biggest wins ❤️

I went into Euros knowing I couldn’t handstand walk. I’d spent the last 3 months actually training the skill — drills, accessories and lots of help from some great coaches — rather than just kicking up and hoping for the best 😂

I still couldn’t do it.

But somewhere amongst all those attempts on the competition floor, something finally clicked. I felt the bite point and, for the first time, understood what I was actually looking for.

4 days later… over 1m 🙌

Still a long way to go, but something I genuinely thought I might never be able to do suddenly feels possible.

Progress is progress, no matter the starting point ❤️

All the gear, no idea 😂🇬🇧

Kit collected ✔️
Name board collected ✔️
Opening ceremony about to begin 🇬🇧

Still feels slightly surreal to say I’m actually here at the iF3 European Championships representing my country 😬

Very proud to be competing alongside @bondsabout and representing @lovehatedofitness ❤️ and @hybridhaus.fitness 🖤

Tomorrow the actual work starts… 😬😂

I’m pretty sure @turfgames is my favourite competition and yesterday did not disappoint.

The immense heat presented a challenge I’ve never encountered before in CrossFit. It was stifling, so thankful for the water misting, ice baths and a change of clothes.

WOD 1 – Energy Crisis started us off well. We executed our plan perfectly, won our heat and finished 4th, only 30 seconds behind 1st. I also had a little beef with some girls who objected to me running between them when they wouldn’t move… but I’m a rugby girl, so I loved it.

WOD 2 – Pipeline was one of the toughest of the day. The heat, hot artificial turf and burpees were brutal. We flew through the worm squats, had a slight hiccup on STOH and were pretty fucked by the thrusters. Another heat win and 5th place.

WOD 3 – Gas Station was the one I feared most because of the running and ergs, but ended up being my favourite. My running has improved, which showed, and despite a timing tag issue (plus throwing my water bottle onto the canopy…) we somehow finished 21st.

WOD 4 – Slideshow Alley was a mixed bag. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing on the leg press erg and we finished 18th. Part B, however, was max reps hang to overhead. We hit 123 reps, took 1st and, once again, confirmed I love a barbell.

WOD 5 – Ready for Lift Off was a lifting finale, so right up my street. I missed 80kg STOH twice (and nearly knocked myself out), but looking back, 75kg at the end of a gruelling day, in that heat and under fatigue, was definitely a win.

Overall, we finished 6th out of 120 teams, which isn’t too shabby.

The best part, though, was competing alongside @izzycrawleyfitness @leigh_rand @sarah_jqr @knullenbulli Strong women supporting strong women. Add in the @hybridhaus.fitness crew, with the boys taking 3rd, plus plenty of banter, laughs, blood, sweat and tears… I wouldn’t want it any other way. ❤️ by @emmaluceyetc

Sometimes the absence of an explanation becomes an explanation of its own.

Not because anything new happened.

Because the mind rarely leaves an empty space empty.

Some interactions carry more weight than the interaction itself.

Not because anything happened.

Because of the meaning that quietly gathers around small behaviour.

This competition was as much a mental battle as it was a physical one.

It was also my first individual comp.

There were highs, lows, self-doubt, mistakes, frustration, a few tears and a lot of questioning throughout the process. Some events exposed weaknesses I hadn’t trained enough for, others reminded me what I’m capable of.

I PB’d my hang clean at 77.5kg, nearly got my first ring muscle up back and managed things this weekend I genuinely didn’t think I could do a few weeks ago. I’d only ever managed 2-3 ring muscle ups about two years ago and haven’t trained them since, and while I was able to learn weighted pistol squats a couple of days before, what CrossFit keeps teaching me is that you can’t wing what you don’t train, no matter how much effort and heart you give.

Ended up finishing 3rd overall and qualifying for Europeans. A sentence that still feels strange to say out loud if I’m honest.

I know the circumstances. I know where I got lucky. I also know how hard I worked, how close I came to not entering at all and how much this process tested me mentally.

One thing I’m learning is that opportunities don’t always arrive in perfect conditions. Sometimes you just take them, do your best with where you are right now and see what happens.

A huge thank you to @chrislucey86 for being my rock through all of this, @bondsabout for pushing me to enter in the first place, @hybridhaus.fitness for constantly accommodating my chaotic qualifier schedule and the @lovehatedofitness women for listening to every bit of overthinking, analysing and emotional rollercoaster along the way.

Yesterday wasn’t perfect, but I’m proud of myself anyway.
