Thanks to M. Lee Jun Hak and curator Kim Hee Jeong, I made this immersive video for the Ceramic Culture Gallery, @gwangju_museum. It opens today and it's permanent.

It's about the birth of the ceramic, with the work of @baeksan_heritage in #mungyeong.

Filmed with the immense help of @emmanuelwolfs.

The is music composed by @tonyhayere, inspired from his album Beyond the Atom.

Same team, different time. 4 years after our attempt to light the night with #drones I gathered with @emmanuelwolfs, his custom-made, 3d printed lights and @uavgirl in one of the most important #buddhist #temple called Beomeosa.

The music was made by the amazing @dongmyeongkim_music and he's beautiful sensitivity.

Beomeosa temple played a key role in the resistance against the Japanese occupation until the liberation of Korea in 1945. For the 80th birthday of the liberation, the @busan_museum is holding an exhibition about independence activists and this temple.

June 21st-August 15th.

This is the epilogue, last film of the series made for @seoulmuseumofhistory about the Joseon missions to Japan in the 17-18th century. It is called A Night in Akamagaseki. After peace was settled and diplomatic relationships restored, Joseon intellectuals met Japanese intellectuals. They debated about Neo-Confucianism, through a very sophisticated form of dialog with calligraphy of Chinese characters, a common language between them at that time. Even though their opinion differs, the tone is warm, and peaceful. I wanted to emphasize this very smooth and sensual mood of cultural exchange, by using a tango, inspired from Wong Kar Wai's short The Hand, the score of Antonioni, and my early short film Seeking You (2008). We worked with @tonyhayere about an original score inn this sense, enriched by the melodies of @mathieu_vilbert and Fabrice Touchard. Thanks also to @jazzieon, which sang some beautiful melodies that were edited out due to the density of dialogs and music.

Au montage, en discutant avec @tonyhayere, on s'est rendu compte que ce moment était décisif. Le personnage dit que les anciens rois coréens avaient eu la sagesse de s'incliner devant le Japon, sans honte, dans le seul but de protéger le peuple, tel un parent pour ses enfants. @tonyhayere a magnifié en musique ce moment, faisant une rupture vers une atmosphère lumineuse, accompagnant le dénouement du film.

Nous étions de tournage de nuit avec @emmanuelwolfs dans les monts Nari à Ulleungdo. On s'était préparé pour un grand froid, mais d'après les habitants, avec le réchauffement climatique, il y avait eu bien moins de neige que prévu. Sous une fine couche de 30 centimètres, il y avait une épaisseur de glace dure, si glissante qu'elle nous empêchait de monter sur les collines.

Nous avons fait plusieurs jeux de regards entre les acteurs, mais de tous, j'ai été particulièrement touché par celui de Kang Taeyeong. Je le voyais entre chaque prise puiser dans son être intérieur pour incarner au mieux ces hauts fonctionnaires, perdus dans le brouillard diplomatique, ne sachant quelle attitude adopter face à un Japon incertain.
