UPDATE- we have blown through cardiology, psychology, hematology, oncology, and are onto GI. I’ve been able to shadow in clinic and ER to give me more experience. After GI and MSK is done, we are onto our third semester! 🤓 taken in University of South Dakota by @emmas.pa.posts

We finished up HEENT! I loved looking in eyes once I got the hang of it! We got to visit USD’s audiology program and learned about cerumen (ear wax!!) removal, hearing aids, and hearing tests! We just finished our dermatology portion of didactic! Dermatology has always been one of my favorite things to learn about, and our lab was loads of fun 🤓 we practiced shave biopsies, punch biopsies, and excisions on tomatoes, oranges, and bananas! FUN FACT: if you use an expired can of dry ice cryotherapy it may explode your orange and give you a reaction seen in picture 5 🥸 LOVE LEARNING with my silly bestie @pastudenttara by @emmas.pa.posts

I couldn’t be more excited to be wrapping up my first semester. I have one final take home exam for research perspectives as well as my rough draft for my masters thesis due 😅 I feel blessed to be able to have the comfort of my home and wonderful cozy Christmas spirit all around me 🥰🤩🎄 by @emmas.pa.posts

Today we learned how to do a digital block. The same technique may be used on toes! This is used for finger or toe injuries. Lidocaine is used around the base of the digit to numb everything to the very tip of the digit. There are multiple methods, but our instructor prefers the “c” method where you go above, next to, and under the bone with the lido on both sides. 🤓 taken in University of South Dakota by @emmas.pa.posts
