We had the most inspiring time at @theotherartfair in London this weekend and met so many talented artists and photographers.

This place is the cheat code for any new collectors wanting to start buying because I’m telling you, this lot are going places.

Drop an emoji if you were there and a YES if we will see you next year!

💙

Why do I feel like I have to explain myself?

Why can’t I change tact like a bird…and for it to just be so.

What is this nagging voice in my head that asks me to explain myself.

Again and again…

You see, I’ve had a change of heart.

I’m no longer hungry to be the business coach I once was.

Churning out content, showing people how to make a sale.

Paying thousands on coaching courses only to learn the same thing again and again, just packaged slightly differently.

Tying to put my own spin on in by making it holistic and nervous system led.

Which I did for for a time and it worked but the reality is…

If you are not IN your business.

If you are not the engine and the ideas generator.

If you are not taking regular time off and priortising self care.

It’s not going to work the way you want.

And when your parent’s need full time care and grief comes knocking…

And your energy is pulled in 100 different directions.

Something has to give, and I could have never prepared for this.

Without ME in my business, passive sales didn’t happen passively.

New connections ceased to pop out of thin air.

And client requests were at 0.

Now…when I land on a reel of a coach teaching me how to sell it’s like my brain automatically switches off.

Especially if their script is written by AI and their underlying energy is frantic.

I’m hungry for real in person connections.

Creative prompt’s from artist’s and writers that get my brain ticking.

I want to work with my hands.

Making, moving and mastering something in the physical.

Not the digital.

This space and time I’ve had away from my business has shown me what’s important and made me re-think my path.

I’ve decided I don’t want a digital grave yard with 100’s of hours of courses collecting pixel dust.

THE WAVES OF CHANGE

Tumultuous they crash across my broken body

Raw and in awe i watch on

A stirring from within, whirlpools of chaos, dragging me deeper and deeper

Till, ‘gulp’ there’s nowhere to go

No light at the end of the tunnel

No air to sip

Just inky black soup and the bite of chill

A void so void

A song with no notes, no harmonies or arias

A novel with no pages, no ink or spine

A dark
Dark place of
NO THING

Here, I meet myself in the salty depths

An ocean pooled from my tears and still no thing

No glimmer of life

Where, has she gone…

The girl who feels the warmth of sunset’s in the base of her spine

The girl who photographs light and shadow, liberally painting the mundane

The girl who cooks a three course meal for one because food is pleasure

And pleasure is medicine

And still ‘No Thing’

But wait…

There’s tear in the fabric of THIS reality

An opening so small it’s barely noticeable with the naked eye

A sliver of light breaks

A shard of hope lands in the center of her chest

A photograph i took of you when i was 16 slips through

And there it is, joy

An exquisite light pink fluffy pompom of a feeling in my upper belly

All tingly and wiggly

It’s small, but it’s there…and it tickles me when I look at this picture of you

Is it happiness? Well I no not of that yet, but I do know there are murmurings

And stirrings that starlings will make the most beautiful murmurations

And stop regular guys called Pete and Dave in there tracks

To look up in wonder and say…

Wow, what a beautiful day, has it always been this way?

You see, this sea fairing story is not just mine to spill, it’s for all you deep sea swimmers who’ve lost your thrill

The dark
Is dark, in the dark of the night and it took me some time to find my light

But when I did it was in the shape of you,

So I placed you atop of my bedroom draw

An alter so fine, only the absolute best may adorn.

So now, every day your pink fluffy pom-poms help me live and love on.

In a way that would have made you proud and say ‘that’s ma girl’…you keep moving on.

🪽Thank you Mamoo for inspiring me from the beyond.

The pressure of a blinking cursor. The beautiful anonymity of not posting and sharing slices of my life online.

An underlying need to be creative with reflection but the sweet taste of creating just for me.

Since mum and dad passed away the world looks different and my priorities have shifted. To me important looks like giving myself £10 on a Saturday and seeing how many treasures I can pick up from the charity shop…

…walking round Tops Tiles or the builders merchants then getting a pasty from Greggs because that’s how weekends were spent with my family in the 90’s.

The comfort I get from re arranging a room, cooking one of my mums favourite recipes or hearing the bins go out on a Sunday at dusk, transports me back to a more simple time that matches where my energy is now.

Looking back the rituals of family life kept my world turning, dancing, gymnastics and drama lessons in the week and watching dad play rugby for Manchester on Saturday.

Then being ‘made’ to go on a big walk till sunset on a Sunday, mum at an ‘am dram’ rehearsal and me falling to sleep under dad’s arm to the soporific murmur of Rugby Special.

It’s only now I realise how important, grounding and settling these family rituals were and now…I find myself grasping at threads of the past to get a sense of where my place is in the world today.

There’s a new iteration of Emma emerging but it’s too early to say who she’s becoming or who she wants to be.

Part of me wishes she could go back and have one last conversation with both of them and there’s this other part that know’s it was the right time to step up and in.

Painful as it is, there’s a still strength that comes with a double serving of grief and the lessons and synchronicity’s are guiding me, and…I’m getting better at sitting in the unknowingness.

Because there are certain things in my life that are constant , and it’s these that give me something to get up and live for.

Art, design, music, nature, food, movement, friends, creativity and love.

Simple I know but the more I sit with this complex grief the less I’m drawn to complicating my life.

🖤 Roger Frederick Shoesmith left his earthy body at age 72 on a full blue moon on Sunday 31st May 2026.

Six weeks after my beautiful Mamoo Sue 🕊️

Dad was the kind of person you’d want around in a crisis. He had this ability to stay super calm as we were navigating steep terrain in white out 🏂

Or baling water out of one of our many clap trap boats ⛵️ …or putting his thumb over the mains water pipe and telling mum to bring the towel’s, again!🚰

His brain tumour arrived quickly and he went from weekly padel matches, band practice and kiting to being unable to move in just 6 months.

Shortly after he was diagnosed I created a WhatsApp group which quickly grew to 260 something people, all showing support as he went through treatment and personally updated people with a blog about his cancer journey.

This was my dad all over, even in his darkest moments he was able to create a community, write poems about the humour in the tumour, see all his old pals, record a song and fundraise a large sum of money to plant a forest 🌳

There are so many hilarious stories, tales of adventure and unforgettable capers that will live on in my memory and will be told when the time is right.

But now I find comfort in knowing that so much of him lives on in me: his off-the-wall sense of humour, his nose for business, and his ability to build a community wherever he landed.

Daddy, I had some of the best most wild adventures with you that have shaped me more than you will ever know.

It’s ok if you turn away from these posts.

It’s my way of getting my thoughts and feelings out of my body and into the ether.

Which somehow helps lighten my load 🌀

If you know, you know…
