Throwback to a BTS clip from our creative photography photoshoot organized by @upsidebrownphotography, our model @emmpocalypse and I think that is @peteys_portraits_ clicking away. Emma moves throughout the shoot which makes it fun to work with her. You never quite know how the shot will come out. I used Shazzam to figure out the music track that was playing in the background and added it to the track. Video was graded using the new Color tool in Premiere Pro Beta which I am really starting to like. I converted color footage to black and white then adjusted shadow and highlight detail from there. Only wish I had recorded more video of the shoot, but I got some great stills and that made it fun too. by @emmpocalypse

I love this collection because the portraits are technically simple yet emotionally powerful: the poetry and unspoken magnetism of humanism… Beauty is so much more complex and multifaceted than the common conception. There is beauty in tears and rage and struggle; ugly is simply a word we affix to what makes us uncomfortable. It’s a projection of avoidance and uncertainty. My intention is never to produce pretty pictures but to craft soulful art and compelling stories. This set is exactly that.

Emma, Eric, and yours truly spent a couple of hours together in free-form creative play without expectations, definitions, or any pressure. We were creating for the sake of art, and that process was rooted in connection and genuine camaraderie. Each one of these frames was a visceral, transient moment shared and memory made in earnest by the three of us. AI could never.

This collection was almost lost to my archives, like so many other bewilderingly wonderful sets, projects, and collaborations. Life has been blurring by for far too long, and far too much of my art has been buried under the relentless melt of time. I am actively working on that and will be sharing A LOT in the near future, so ready yourselves…

I am grateful. I love you all!

Some moments can’t be planned.

The light shows up.
The dust starts to dance.
And suddenly everything feels bigger than you imagined.

Emma trusted Gwen.
Gwen trusted Emma.
And for a few seconds, the desert gave us something unforgettable.

Two horses. One desert. One woman who looked like she belonged there all along.
The dry lake bed was quiet. The wind had other plans.
Emma brought the attitude.
Gwen and Calypso brought the presence.
The desert handled the rest.
Sometimes the most powerful images happen when you stop trying to control the scene and let it become what it wants to be.
