The Life I Almost Gave Up On

There are pieces of me scattered across so many versions of my life the boy who had to leave what he knew, the young man who crossed oceans carrying nothing but a suitcase, a dream, and a heart that had already learned too much about disappointment, and the person I am now, still becoming, still healing, still learning that sometimes survival is its own kind of victory. I have cried in silence, smiled when I was breaking, questioned my worth, questioned people I loved, and wondered why life sometimes feels like I have to fight twice as hard just to receive half as much peace. I have known loneliness in crowded rooms, felt misunderstood by people who only saw a moment of my story, and carried pain that I never knew how to put into words. But somehow, God kept finding me in every place where I thought I was lost. He met me on the days I didn’t recognize myself, on the nights when my thoughts were heavier than my body, in airports and unfamiliar cities, at work when I was exhausted, in moments when people doubted me, and in the quiet spaces where I questioned whether any of this was worth it. Rob, I still can’t believe you’re gone. It hurts to know that I won’t hear your laugh, your jokes, or see that smile that could light up a room. You weren’t just a friend you were family, a person who made even the hardest days a little easier. I’ll always remember the moments we shared, the late-night talks, the random adventures, and how you somehow knew exactly when I needed a friend. Eyes say what words never could. 👁️✨maybe that’s why my eyes look the way they do.

they’ve seen the nights i never talked about, the tears i wiped away before anyone could notice, the moments i felt lost, the people i had to let go of, and the battles i fought quietly while pretending everything was okay.

but they’ve also seen me become someone new.

they’ve watched me leave places that no longer felt like home, chase dreams that once felt impossible, choose myself, travel, grow, laugh again, and slowly build a life that belongs to me.

there’s pain in my eyes, but there’s freedom too. there’s softness, but there’s strength. there’s a whole story behind them that nobody could understand just by looking.

so if you see me smiling now, understand that it took a lot of tears to make this version of me.

these eyes have seen enough to know that life can hurt you and still be beautiful. 🖤
