World, meet Nico. Nico grew up as Marley but never felt comfortable in his body or identity. I've witnessed it first hand. The anguish that comes with feeling like you're trapped being someone you don't fully identify as. Nico is kind, brilliant, artistic, and social-emotionally intelligent. A great person. Having autism already meant doing a lot of masking and he just didn't want to do it anymore. I'm in the business of keeping my child alive. I'm here to help my children become who they are supposed to become and protect their mental health throughout their journey. Marley peed standing up at the age of 2. None of this is shocking to me, but it is an adjustment. It's a terrifying world we live in. Having autism and being transgender are not things people always fully understand or accept. I have no doubt I was chosen to be Nico's parent on purpose. It's hard, but it's worth it to make sure my child gets to be their authentic self. If you're living through this as well please send resources, advice, perspectives etc. mostly though, I wanted you to meet my son, someone who is extremely courageous and someone I am so proud of. Be kind. If you agree or not, be kind, this is a child, my child. Nico would love the support from the internet aunties and uncles. 💜🙏🏾 by @empathyandeyebrows
