Emperatriz Plácido San Martín’s work exalts sacred instances of life and invites us to feel its strength and perhaps its call. Devoted to fearing death since our earliest and most Catholic childhood, we have become excellent conjurers of terrible emotions whenever crisis, loss or illness take something away from us; and yet we survive daily thanks to death and with the death of all that we have consumed to nourish and fill us with its energy. We survive on the mortal ruins of other peoples who had to die for all their descendants to be here today. We survive one more day in the midst of a whole chain of plundering and extractions that to some does not take anything directly from us but the cost is still being paid with their lives by someone less privileged than us in some other corner of Peru, and that too is the absolute regency of death.

No voy a morir para que otros vivan
/
El cuerpo se compone de 4 planos: el espiritual, el físico, el mental, y el emocional; como si fueran análogo a la distribución de la vida en 4 estados de la materia: fuego, tierra, aire y agua. Las prácticas espirituales sostienen una serie de símbolos y procesos que nos ayudan a concentrar nuestra atención, nos conectan con planos más extensos que los humanos para entender la vida dentro y fuera nuestro y nos permite recuperar nuestras fuerzas para protegernos y proteger a quienes amamos. Creo que la creación de piezas de arte surge de la necesidad de entender códigos y símbolos en nuestro entorno, para interpretar y crear nuevas realidades. A partir de ello la instalación “No voy a morir para que otros vivan” se compone de una serie de mecanismos para fortalecer los 4 planos de mi cuerpo ante la violencia estructural.

Me siento muy agradecida de poder haber participado en este proceso, de poder haber creado este homenaje a la muerte para recuperar mi energía vital para seguir evolucionando. Gracias a Guslagie, la curadora del concurso, por el acompañamiento tan sensible y respetuoso. Gracias a todos los que me acompañaron durante este proceso y a quienes visitaron la muestra y me hicieron saber sus buenos comentarios hacia mi trabajo.

Entre temporadas libra-escorpio (octubre-noviembre) del 2023 estuvo mi muestra “Frente a ti nuestra inmensidad” en la cede de la molina de la @aflimaoficial
Esta estuvo compuesta por dos series de dibujos: La serie de retratos del tiempo y la serie de paisajes del tiempo. La primera se compone de 9 retratos de personas a las que amo mucho y fueron realizados durante conversaciones personales, como un documento de lo que el tiempo ha echo con nosotras o un amuleto que contiene todas las emociones acumuladas de tanto sentir la vida/muerte. La segunda son paisajes de rabia y calma, de amor y odio, de luz y oscuridad, como los sentimientos que despertamos en los demas y viceversa. Fue un proceso muy bonito el ir coloreando cada uno de los dibujos expuestos, de poder compartir tiempo y observar de cerca a las personas que amo. Me senti como si fuera niña denuevo, solo que con dramas de adulto🤮.
Colorear me ayuda a soltar pensamientos y pasar el tiempo.
Gracias a Jordan, Andre, Mi mamá, Gretel, Pierina, Karla, Santiago y Max por cuidarme y acompañarme en esta vida. Gracias a @miguelopez1 por animarme a mostrar los retratos que venia trabajando en la intimidad y por acompañarme en la curaduría de todo el proceso. Gracias a mi mamá y a mi tio abel por acompañarme en el conversatorio sobre espiritualidad y uniones que trascienden lo sanguineo. Y gracias a todas las personas que asistieron 💖 fue muy lindo proceso.

Through her depictions of containers, books, plants and familiar objects, she explores the links between home, attachment and material culture. 🧢

Soy un corazon nostálgico. no se si esto sea algo bueno, algo malo, pero lo que si se, desde muy pequeña, es que la memoria se debe ejercitar a diario. Esto lo apredí de mi abuela emperatriz. Luego de 2 derrames cerebrales y un infarto cerebral, la empera tenia que realizar ejercicios tanto motrices como cognitivos. Era común verla sentada tejiendo o jugando solitario, asi como tambien era normal de que la nada te pregunte: tu sabes cuantos eran los inkas? 14, se llamaban Manco capac, sinchi roca, lloque yupanqui… y así te decía cada uno de ellos.
Yo entiendo que el proposito de mi nostalgia no es vivir en melancolía perpetua, mas bien, como dice la yanna: Si te pierdes en el camino regresa a la raiz y sabras el destino.
A mis 34 años, casi 35, vivo en Bruselas con mi marido el vampiro. Es normal aun, luego de un año, que al despertar me sienta perdida. A veces me toma un rato entender donde estoy y recordar como llegue aqui. Bruselas no se parece en nada a Lima y creo que es mejor no forzar eso. Así como yo tampoco soy la misma persona. En mi vida han habido cambios muy profundos y casi no tengo recuerdos materiales de mi infancia, solo historias.
Hoy, quiero compartir con ustedes este mix que realice a inicios del año. @camila__palomino me invito a que ponga musica en su programa de radio en @nts_radio y me emocione harto. Mientras lo hacia recorde cuando de niña mi papa me enseñaba sus nuevos discos de “Las mas toneras” para poner en el trabajo. Yo creci en un local de recepciones donde realizabamos fiestas. Muy curiosamente este mix no tiene necesariamente las mas nuevas jajaja mas bien esta lleno de musica que me recuerda a los momentos en los que fui feliz. Espero no solo lo disfruten, sino que tambien pongan atencion a las letras de las canciones, que en ellas podran encontrar los secretos para disfrutar de la vida intensamente.

“REPARATIONS” at @artistcommons_bxl

This body of work belongs to an ongoing research called “Conversaciones con Rafael sobre Esther e Ybrain”.
Time has passed and with the passing of those who watched us grow it is impossible not to ask myself how my life has changed, knowing that I can no longer communicate physically with my father’s side of the family, but spiritually. In that process, memories are open up and are reconstructed, and with them new questions emerge about a past that remains present, accompanying us into the future.
What I see most clearly is what is no longer here, yet once sustained our entire existence and our capacity to keep living. Within this, many images appear: restaurants, Santo Domingo, la Virgen del rosario, Zaña, Tauca, and what it felt like to live in a house that was gradually overtaken by greed.
I think that our connection to the lands that saw us born and raised, that nourished us, and from which we learned to breathe, is mediated by faith in something greater—a giver of life. To break this connection, to cease honoring the divine in both life and death, is to fall under a curse that alienates us, born from the trauma produced by the ideas of Progress, Development, and Humanity as they are inscribed upon the body.

There are conversations that take place after our bodies feel the impossibility of seeing each other again. They are conversations that endure because the bond is still present. There are likely things we will never be able to express—things that cannot be rationalized and therefore end up becoming nonexistent in reality.
Sensations that only the body, and each of its organs, can identify, but that consciousness cannot. Those answers to questions that, in this very deep world, take shape as thoughts or memories.
They are not only ours; the truth is written in every place your eyes rest upon and where your body comes to rest. The answers are within you—you just aren’t able to see them unless you are willing to deal with their consequences.
One has to be prepared to understand life, because when it comes to death, we already know the story by heart.

Hay conversaciones que se tienen luego de que nuestros cuerpos sienten la incapacidad para volver a verse. Son conversaciones que se sostienen porque aún el vínculo sigue presente. Posiblemente hay cosas que no podremos nunca pronunciar, que no son capaces de ser racionalizadas y que, por ende, acaban siendo inexistentes para la realidad.
Sensaciones que solo el cuerpo y cada uno de sus órganos son capaces de identificar, pero que la conciencia no. Son respuestas a las preguntas que, en este mundo muy profundo, cobran sentido como pensamientos o recuerdos.
No son solo nuestras; la verdad está escrita en cada parte sobre la que se posan tus ojos y descansa tu cuerpo. Las respuestas las tienes, solo que no eres capaz de verlas a menos que estés dispuesta a lidiar con sus consecuencias.
Una tiene que estar preparada para saber sobre la vida, porque de la muerte nos conocemos la historia de memoria.

‘Hanging aloe plants and dangling charms’

This pieces belongs to a bigger serie of work called ‘El mismo fuego que destrye es el que abre los caminos’ (The same fire that destroy, is the same one that opens the paths)
About the serie:
Every material on Earth holds a specific energy that contributes to the balance of life. The human body responds to the energies that surround it. Through processes similar to alchemy, combining two or more elements allows these energies to be directed in order to attract desired outcomes. Amulets emerge from this practice.
In Peru, a wide range of spiritual traditions employ amulets as part of their rituals. It is common to find horseshoes or aloe plants placed at the entrances of homes to repel negative energies and encourage prosperity.
This body of work is informed by such spiritual knowledge and explores the idea of opening paths toward spaces of abundance. It reflects a search for health, harmony, love, and financial stability following processes of personal transformation.

Dans l’exposition 𝓢𝓮 𝓶𝓮𝓾𝓻𝓽 𝓫𝓸𝓭𝔂, 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐳 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧 (@emperatrizpsm) propose une pratique où symboles, rituels et images deviennent des outils de transformation et de relation.

𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐳 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐝𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧 (Lima, 1991) est une artiste, activiste, autrice et tatoueuse basée à Bruxelles. Son travail explore les connexions spirituelles qui se tissent dans les échanges quotidiens avec les énergies qui nous entourent, à travers des symboles investis d’intentions magico-religieuses.

Elle envisage la relation aux énergies immatérielles comme une manière de régénérer les corps — entre justice, protection et gratitude envers les divinités.
Diplômée de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, elle a exposé au Pérou et à Mexico, et a participé à la Deuxième Biennale des Amazônias (2025). Son travail est publié dans 𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑜𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑧𝑖𝑛𝑒, 𝐴𝑟𝑡 𝑃𝑎𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠, entre autres, et ses livres figurent dans les collections du Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) et de la Tate à Londres.
