🎁 Every kid deserves something to unwrap.

This holiday season, we're collecting toys for the children and families living at our Empower CDC properties, from babies all the way to teens.

Our goal is $3,500, which is $350 for each property. Every dollar you donate goes toward toys for kids in our community, and it's all online, so there are no drop-offs needed.

📲 Scan the QR code, or visit empowercdc.org (link in bio)
📅 Give by Friday, November 20

Every gift helps a child in our community feel celebrated this season. Please share this with friends and family to help us reach our goal! 🧡

Thank you to @the_paigehubbard_brand and @kprc2 for having us on to talk about Empower(ed) to Feed! 🙏

Groceries keep getting more expensive, and a lot of working families are feeling it. Every Wednesday, we serve nearly 200 Houston families, giving out about 2,000 lbs of food a week. That's a literal ton. 🛒

Most of the families we serve are ALICE households (Asset Limited Income Constrained, but Employed): they work, but still can't keep up with the cost of living. I grew up in one, so this work is personal to me.

We're not going to turn anyone away.

Our Annual Spooky Health Fair at Hartwood at Canal was one for the books! 🎃🧡

Families came out for costumes, candy, and a hot meal. They also connected with local partners offering health resources, insurance support, maternal care, and more. Seeing our community show up for each other like this is exactly why we do what we do.

A huge thank you to our community partners and vendors for pouring into our neighbors:

@godslovelybutterfliesmaternity
@molinahealth

And to the teams who brought the magic:

Thank you to our local Walmart Supercenter on Silber Rd! 🎄 Your $1,000 Spark Good Local Grant just got us 29% of the way to our Holiday Toy Drive goal. That means more kids at our Empower CDC properties will have something to unwrap this season.

We’re $2,500 away from reaching every child. Help us finish strong by Friday, Nov. 20 (link in bio).

Our community food pantry at Windsor Gardens keeps growing, and so does the number of South Houston families we get to serve.

Since June 2026, average weekly attendance has gone from 76 visits to 102. That's a 34% increase.

Through our partnership with the @houstonfoodbank, we've distributed more than 48,000 pounds of food, helping families access the essentials they need.

Come see us tomorrow. 9AM to 1PM at Windsor Gardens.

PROPERTY HIGHLIGHT: Hartwood at Canal

There is always something happening at Hartwood at Canal. This month our residents filled the community room for an afternoon of food, crafts, and prizes.

One resident told us she had planned to stay in that day. She saw the email, came downstairs, and spent the afternoon talking with neighbors. She went home with a gift for her daughter that she said she could not have bought on her own.

Another resident won a gift card and mentioned she really needed pillow sheets.

That is what these afternoons are for. Not every need shows up on a form.

Here's a 41-second recap of our recent College & Career Resource Fair at the YET Center! 🎓🧡

Our students spent the day connecting with colleges, community partners, and career professionals. They asked real questions, explored new pathways, and filled their bingo cards one table at a time. They also enjoyed free haircuts, refreshments, and a raffle full of prizes.

At Empower CDC, we believe every student deserves access to the people and resources that can shape their future. Thank you to the partners who showed up for our youth:

@uofhouston
@sanjaccollege
@houstoncitycollege
@j.harris_barber_academy
@tla_group_llc
