The Oracles Place

Hi, I’m Mariama Faye.
Born in The Gambia. Raised in Brooklyn.

For a long time, I kept asking myself the same question:
Why do I keep getting the same results?

Not just in life, but in how I think, who I was, and what I keep attracting and allowing into my life.

That question introduced me to neuroscience and, later, to psychology, spirituality, and self-mastery.

Now I’m pursuing a dual Master’s in Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling, with a background in Afrocentric Consciousness.

But more than anything, I’ve been studying myself.
How my thoughts become things.
How my patterns shaped my outcomes, whether consciously or unconsciously.

Professionally, I’m a financial consultant, because I needed to become the support I needed to build my credit and change my relationship with money.

I created the Dark Feminine Energy Facebook group and an Afrocentric Consciousness page simply because I had so much to share, and no one to share it with.

Now this space exists for mental health conversations, healing, and breaking patterns and cycles.

Sitting here missing the feel of fresh flowers and the smell of eucalyptus. 🌿💐

Took me back to the networking event by @lawofcreations. ✨

I made some great connections, loved the flowers by @jadorepetalls, and I still have the dried eucalyptus sitting on my desk. 😆

Glad I could finally get a physical copy of one of my all-time favorite manifestation and self-transformation teachings.

I first discovered the audio workshop on YouTube about 7 or 8 years ago while I was renting a room in Washington Heights, just off Dykman Street in NYC.

At the time, I was just beginning to learn how to create deliberately. I listened to the workshop three times within the first two weeks because of the feeling it produced.

“Transformation, you ain’t felt grief ’til you felt it sober.” — Kendrick Lamar, Mother I Sober

This book always reminds me of that line.

Then one day, the workshop disappeared from YouTube. For years, I couldn’t find it.

Now I finally have both the audio and the physical book. The reread value for me is a 10/10.

I am as ratchet as the next lady 😆 and if you know me, you know I am a party animal.

But one thing is for sure.

India Arie has been preaching self love, healing, and worth to us since day ONE. For decades, her music has been a safe space.

As someone who was constantly told I was either too dark, too thick, or hearing negative comments about my hair — from The Gambia to Brooklyn — her music has always been what kept me going 🤎🙏🏾✨💝

I remember around 2019 I was in a deep dark hole of depression. There are chunks of that year I still can’t remember. Yet India’s music was all I played. On repeat.

These past few months, I’ve had conversations with people who are currently incarcerated, recently released, or have been home for several months.

As someone who had to visit her favorite uncle in prison in The Gambia at a young age, I’ve always had it in the back of my mind to study the system.

I remember my first conversation with @author_kold. I told him I wanted to read street lit that was authentic and told the lives of those in the streets.

I wanted to understand the psychology of the streets. How do people become part of that life? Why do some get stuck while others eventually leave? Being around it growing up, those were questions nobody ever answered for me.

Because I come from a family where some were incarcerated, some struggled with drugs, and some were emotionally and physically abusive, I wanted to know.

Like… wtf is all this chaos in my family?! 😂😤😅

As Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, I wanted to introduce you to @author_kold. His books gave me another lens to explore questions I’ve had for years and became part of my research into understanding the men in my own family.

The Streets Series was my first read. When I finished the series, I needed a week just to sit with everything I’d taken in. Much of what I later studied in academia was already showing up in those pages through story instead of theory.

Today, I don’t just have the language to talk with people whose lives resemble the stories in those books. I also have the ears to hear them.
