30 years ago on this day Empyrium‘s debut album „A Wintersunset…“ was released. It paved the way for young, sweet Markus and also for our label Prophecy Productions. Not without pride I can say that many things that happened later around that label and bands that followed wouldn’t be possible without this album. This album encapsules so beautifully my determination, my will power, my courage and spirit and my passion for music and nature. I was bloody young back then - 16 when we composed the album, 17 when we recorded it, but I had ambitions. I knew very well who I am, what I want to achieve, who are the people I want to surround myself with and who are the people I want to avoid. I had a vision and I had found the fullfilling meaning of my life in music. Not bad for a 16 year old boy. It fills me with joy and gratitude that the emotions I expressed with my music back then and that I still express to this day resonate with so many people around the globe. I think I know the answer why that is…It was always and still is coming 100% from the heart…There is no pose, there is no „image“.

27 years old as of today: "Where at Night the Wood Grouse Plays" by German atmospheric metal masters @empyrium_official_
Listen/order via the link in our bio!
Their third album saw Empyrium abandoning the metal elements of their music for the first time, instantly creating a classic of nature-romantic acoustic music. Inspired by Ulver's "Kveldssanger", this work was more influenced by the folklore of mastermind Schwadorf's home region, the Rhoen, than any other album by Empyrium, and it paved the way for "Weiland" (2002). by @empyrium_official_

"At our bleakest", the second of the two experimental tracks on "Apokalyps 1618", features none other than Markus Stock (@empyrium_official_ ), a genuine legend of the German Black Metal scene since the mid 90ies, who has also made a name for himself as a producer responsible for countless famous album productions.

"At our bleakest" is a cover version of a song from my Doom Metal band @crossvault.official's debut album (2014). With me already being the singer of the original track, we opted for asking Markus to provide the vocals for the cover version, giving him as little instructions as possible in order to deliver his very personal take, resulting in an track with fantastic vocal work reminiscent of old Ulver/Type O Negative. Guitarist M. played a major role in the creation of this tune – arrangement, 90ies synthesizer part, recording the instruments. We hope you enjoy this one!
