Since it’s a new year, I thought I would reintroduce what this Instagram Page is about! I’m Emily and sewing has become a great source of relaxation and self-care.

So, the goal with my page is to have a calm space to record my sewing projects. Recording my makes has helped me learn and grow in my sewing. It has also been a way for my husband and I to enjoy our photography. I’ve put together some of my favourite photo shoots in this post!

My hope is that it can also be somewhere others can land and enjoy a bit of peaceful inspiring sewing content because I’ve been inspired by so many in the sewing community and am so grateful for the tips and resources shared by others.

If you’re looking for a static platform and don’t like scrolling endlessly, feel free to check out my blog emsewhappy.com where I record all my makes! by @emsewhappy

✨Scrap Buster✨

I decided to challenge myself to managing my growing pile of scrap fabric this weekend! I can’t say that my sewing hobby is zero waste but I try to minimise waste where I can. I decided to make a patchwork tote using the pillar and post design. A really lovely experienced quilter typed out some instructions for me after I showed her what I’ve tried so far. I’m so grateful for such a lovely sewing community. I’m really happy with how it’s going so far! These little scraps are like little joy capsules.

Hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend! Do you enjoy making things from your sewing scraps? What other projects would you recommend?

✨Daisy Dress In Rare Pattern Fabric✨

Sometimes when beautiful fabric like this arrives, I want to just leave it untouched to admire (maybe for two yearsšŸ˜‚). Luckily with this launch, I had to get sewing! I’ve made my second iteration of the Daisy Dress which I think is a great match for this beautiful @carolynquan.art piece featured in the latest @rarepatterns Artist Series. I’m so excited with the dress because we have a lot of birthdays over the next couple of months so it’s been perfect timing to sew something special!

Sewing Notes:
🌸 I’ve sewn the size 14 again without any modifications. I love the easy fit of this dress especially with the inclusion of cup sizes. Measurements are 38:33:40.

🌸 This linen is a gorgeous quality. It was a perfect match for the puff sleeved version of the dress.

🌸 Tammy has great instructions for shirring the back bodice but I used the elastic version this time since I was already buying the same elastic for my sleeves.

✨RARE PATTERNS X CAROLYN QUAN✨

Finally finished my dress! Why do the last details always take the longest when sewing a dress? 😁 The Daisy Dress came to mind when I saw the Artist Series by @rarepatterns featuring these bold abstract florals with these beautiful brush strokes by @carolynquan.art

I’ve wanted to return to sew the Daisy Dress with the puffy sleeves. Linen is so soft and breathable which will be cool and comfortable with days that are getting warmer. It’s such an easy dress to sew and wear with the shirred or elasticated back bodice - no buttons or zips needed! This dress is ready for Spring Carnival or a Summer Wedding!

Congratulations to @rarepatterns for launching their Carolyn Quan fabric artist collection! I’ve been a fan and follower of Michelle who is a textile artist herself. So, it was so exciting to be selected to review her artist collection featuring beautiful artworks from @carolynquan.art who is such a talented artist!

Can’t wait to finish and share what I’m sewing! What would you make with this gorgeous piece of linen?

✨Hampton Woven Dress ✨

This sew has been a boost for my self esteem! I really loved making this and it’s been great to take my time at each step. I love a shirtdress but the Hampton dress is like a next level shirtdress! The princess seam and the high low curved gathered skirt all adds to the unique design. I also love the deep hem finished with the facing. The fit feels great too. I liked that the instructions fitted onto 7 pages and had so much detail but in a concise, easy to understand format with great illustrations that you can easily understand at a glance.

Sewing Notes:
•I made the size 12 and decided not to grade even though my measurements were between the 12 and 14. The finished measurements were great to have and gave so much information.

•This blue and white stripe seersucker is from Linen Lab. The fabric is a composite of ramie and cotton. The ramie gives it structure and strength and the cotton makes it feel so soft.

•I’ve made the sleeveless version but there is also a version with sleeves. It’s finished with binding.

•Swipe to see those deep hems

•More details will be in the blog post emsewhappy.com

✨Hampton Woven Dress✨

I have been hanging on to this blue and white stripe seersucker from Linen Lab for two years. I kept changing my mind on what I wanted to use it for. Then I came across the Hampton Woven Dress from Style Arc which got me so excited because I had the right fabric ready to use. The namesake of the pattern, the Hamptons, evokes images of relaxed beach style and quiet luxury which I hope I’ve created with this dress. More photos and details coming because I can’t fit everything into a 30 second reel!

This is as far as I got with my sewing today! I wonder if anyone will recognise the dress that I’m making? I’ve really enjoyed the process so far. I did pause at one stage thinking that it’s not going to work out but decided to trust the process anyway and it absolutely worked. Looking forward to finishing it! Swipe to see the details.

Work in progress:
Pattern: #stylearcpatterns #stylearchamptonwovendress @stylearc

Fabric: Stripe Seersucker (Ramie Cotton) @linenlab.co.kr

Decided on the sleeveless version with the binding.

Love how the waistline is slightly curved and the princess seams shape the bodice so nicely.

Loved the way the hem is finished so neatly with facing.

Next I’ll be adding the placket and collar. Not today though. It’s better to stop after such a lovely sewing session than continue and start making mistakes!

A lovely gift from a friend when my mum passed in December. I’ve been missing her a lot lately and I woke up to this in full bloom! Makes me feel that she’s watching over me somehow. by @emsewhappy

POV: Turning beautiful fabric into forever clothes

I’ve been making my own clothes now a while now and I still get such enjoyment from turning flat material into these treasured pieces of clothing in my wardrobe. I hope this reel finds all my fellow sewing enthusiasts who feel the same way!

✨Collage Top✨

The days are getting longer and there’s been a few sunny days here and there. I feel that spring is just around the corner and I can’t tell you how excited I am to see blossoms on my plum trees (swipe to see them). This inspired my choice of mauve, olive and oyster yarn dyed linen from the Hasting Street Linen collection. The Collage Top is a relaxed fit boxy top with these cute little gathered side panels. When it warms up, I’m going to enjoy wearing this soft linen.

Sewing Notes:
🌸I’ve made the size M for my measurements (38:33:40). No modifications with this version but I want to lengthen it by 1 inch in my next one.

🌸This top is great for scrap busting or colour blocking. It’s been fun to have a play with the colour blocking. I used 1m mauve, 0.5m olive and 0.5m oyster.

🌸I have put everything in my blog post emsewhappy.com so head there for more details.

🌸My @matchymatchysewingclub Collage Top was made with lovely yarn dyed linen from The Hasting Street Linen collection by @2greenzebras. This was kindly gifted for a collaboration with @devonstone_collection & @devonstone_fashion (all opinions remain my own).

✨Hasting Street Linen✨

This parcel of yarn dyed linen sampling was kindly gifted to me by @2greenzebras. I decided to have a play with colour blocking since I had 1m of mauve, 0.5m of oyster, 0.5m of olive. My current pattern maker crush is Matchy Matchy Sewing Club. I decided to make the Collage Top which is the cutest boxy top with a twist of gathered side panels. I’ll post more about the pattern later.

I’ve never had the privilege to sew with yarn dyed linen which is made from threads individually dyed before being woven into fabric. I just love how it gives the linen a natural two-tone colour variation which enhances the depth and character of the linen. It’s been beautiful to sew with! I’m thrilled to be able to add this to my handmade wardrobe.

Details of fabric:
55% Linen, 45% Cotton
5.6oz/189.8gsm
112cm wide

Choosing the fabric is one of my favourite steps in sewing. I’ve received this beautiful parcel from Devonstone Fashion containing samples from their new Hasting Street Linen collection. I’ve picked three colours, mauve, olive and oyster, to try out some colour blocking. Do you have a favourite combination of colours? I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on! This is my #wipwednesday
